Nice to wake up to. But of a cull yaw mention. Still weird seeing the name in the National Press. Well done @meedu_saad@impala.soho - great review. Had one of my best nights ever there last week!
Kill from yesterday. Going to be a special kit I think. On the farm for at least 8 months. Got very fat in the Autumn. Held it for 4 weeks of rain but lost a lot over the next three weeks. But have put on a lot of new fat on Spring grass. Got a grade 4 fat on a Masham for the first time. Being sent to @ikoyi_london - very, very excited about that one. Also got a Welshie over 30kg. Both breeds have over wintered so well and one limper from 90 of them in total. It’s squeaky bum time when you see sheep lose so much condition but the @stanpaulbury starting to work like a dream.
Cornwall Softball Cup Winners 2025!! Up the Yaws. Brilliant team performance girls!! Player of the match Ella for almost getting a hat-trick!! Well done to Stithans for a game played in great spirits.Bring on 2026.Sorry I couldn’t be there - there name sakes had a different journey today. Not the only club sponsor now - we also have @ejfrytransport - when I offered to sponsor a few years back I asked Ian Warren said do it because you want to - don’t expect anything back - this lot calling themselves the yaws is just unreal. They train so hard and they create an environment that is very welcoming. Sort of thinking we might produce an Internatiomal player one day.
Why I’m so excited about the Masham. Got them fat in the autumn - lost the fat during the 7 weeks of rain but has turned into inter muscular fat. And then a quickly developed fat cover in stunning Spring grass. Scary when you see sheep lose so much fat but the perfect storm for frankly stunning meat. It’s @chris.marzec ‘s hand. So passionate about sourcing for @super8restaurants - he’s got some good stuff here.
Had such a great time @barnabyspadstow last night. They hosted an evening with @fourboys.cafe - hoping to eat out more in Cornwall this summer. Seems like such is going on. I forget so many things that happened in London. Had two guests so told a few stories. Remembered somehow getting fish and shellfish to @prawnonthelawn in London in the early days. Great to catch up with Katie and Rick - they were very kind. Staff exceptional - great fun - and incredible quality produce as you would expect. @barnabyspadstow is a very special location. Blown away by what they are doing. Great to see @chefeddiethomson as well - one day we will get the Chefs versus Farmers game @werringtoncc
Remember the Welshie experiment - it passed. Best one yet. Over wintered like angels. To be fair, all the sheep over wintered really well. I am going to give myself a big pat on the back. Took 2 or 3 years but land holding so much water now. It shows. Soil working. Getting best feed back ever from chefs. As ever, @philipwarrenbutchers doing the very important last 3 weeks of ageing. Very tired today but still got a spring in my step.
Huge shoutout to @nick_uglow - sheared the new arrivals within 24 hours notice. They are heading to our conservation grazing land at Gunnislake for a month. Flystrike will start being a factor so very relieved to get them sheared. Weighed them in the morning. Average weight of 93.6/kg. Heaviest 119/kg. I built a terrible race to handle these big sheep. I’m broken this morning but Nick did the heavy lifting. Bit of a craftsman really. These sheep won’t be with us as long as most. But they will get to graze good grass and feel the sun in their back. Anyway, easy day today.
