This may not be a big deal to you, but @225fest just won The Advocate’s Best of Baton Rouge in the Annual Events & Festivals category.
Thank you to every sponsor, partner, vendor, team member, and volunteer who has helped us celebrate culture in the Capital Region for #225Day over the past four years. We’re already looking ahead to Year 5 in February 2027.
If you’re in Baton Rouge and need lawn care, you can’t go wrong with @lagniappe.lawn.care !! My wife knows that I’m particular about how my lawn is cut and edged so only I do it. But while I was at a work conference in Baltimore last week, @themyrarichardson hired somebody on Saturday to cut my grass for the first cut of this season and I gotta tell yall — he did a GREAT JOB!! And to make it even better? She had no clue that he is my former student @slim.soo.dope !! She said that she contacted 3 lawn services that she randomly found and she chose the most responsive and professional. I didn’t get home until late Sunday night so I didn’t get a good look at the lawn until yesterday and Michael did a great job!! Thanks to my wife for taking something off my busy plate because we’ll definitely use him again!!
Thank you Baton Rouge for helping us write a love letter to our city with over 37,000+ attendees! #225FEST year 4 was a huge success because of every sponsor, partner, staff member, entertainer, artist, vendor, volunteer, city worker and law enforcement officer who came together to make this vision a reality.
Now that I’ve almost recuperated after another successful @225fest , let me express love and admiration for my wife @themyrarichardson and explain why I don’t mind walking almost 25 miles within 36 hours (on less than 4 hours of sleep).
In late December 2022, Myra told me that she had this idea to celebrate Baton Rouge on February 25 and call it “225Fest” — 2/25 being symbolic because 225 is our area code. It didn’t take much convincing because I immediately knew that she *had* to do it because no one else could pull it off like she would. And I also knew that I would do whatever I could to support her vision.
In less than 90 days, Myra put together an incredible day that brought out about 14,000 people on 2/25/2023. Year after year, Myra has listened to the praise, feedback, and criticism from people at every level —the community, politicians, business owners, sponsors, partners, volunteers, friends, and me— to make 225Fest better and better every year.
I’ve lived a long life and have done a lot of difficult things, but let me tell you — putting on an annual festival is really one of the hardest things that I’ve been a part of. To me, our only “problem” is a good problem because too many people want to celebrate BR with us!!
I love you babe!! Although I don’t always act like it lol, I’m immensely thankful that you let me be a part of this amazing event each and every year because I love seeing the city come together for a positive cause!!
Last thing to the people complaining — the volunteer link for 225Fest is in my bio. Feel free to actually participate and help as we start working to make 225Fest 2027 better than before.
TL;DR: I love my wife. And volunteer for 225Fest 2027 so that we can continue providing a safe free event for the families in our city.
#TheCollinsKrewe a Louisiana love story.
Of course, my husband asked me to be his Valentine during the DC Mardi Gras Parade 🫶
We got married on #225DAY last year and in less than 30 days, we’ll be celebrating our one-year anniversary with the city we love on Saturday, February 28th. #225 #BatonRougeVSeverybody
