Happy New Year everyone!!! 🎉 Have you made your New Year Resolutions?! Why not make one of them – reducing the amount of single use plastic you use!? ♻️ And guess who can help you with that…. Yes that’s right!! Conveniently – it’s us!! So here’s how it works: 1. Bring a container that is suitable for the product e.g. food containers for food, old cleaning product bottle for cleaning products. 2. Place your empty container on our scale, selecting “empty container” to receive your weight barcode sticker, stick this onto your container 3. Fill your container with the product of your choice 4. Select the “Filled container to weigh” button and find your chosen product – search function available. 5. Scan the Barcode. 6. Reweigh – so you only pay for the contents using the tare weight ticket sticker! 7. You can now check out at the till with a member of our staff. ✨Top Tip - you can leave your tare weight sticker on for next time so you can skip Step 2! What if I forget my container or come unprepared? No judgment - we have paper bags ready for you to use instead. We also have a small donation of jars and bottles that you could use for liquid items! So the amount of items you buy is equals the number of pieces of plastic packaging you save! 👍 Frequent trips to The Clean Kilo means you will be at Eco Warrior status in no time! 💪 #newyearresolutions #zerowastelifestyle #zerowastestore #bournville #Zerowastetips

🧺 This basket = 7 pieces of single-use plastic AVOIDED! 💚 Just one refill shop can make more difference than you think 👇 In this basket alone, there are 7 items that would normally come wrapped in plastic at the supermarket — from pasta and washing up liquid to veg and pantry staples. If this was part of your weekly shop? That’s around 364 pieces of plastic avoided in a year from just these swaps alone! 🤯 And that’s exactly why we believe sustainability doesn’t have to be all or nothing. You don’t need to overhaul your whole lifestyle overnight. You don’t need the “perfect” zero waste pantry. You don’t need to do everything. Because small actions, repeated regularly, really do add up 🌍 Not all superheroes wear capes… sometimes they just remember their jars 😉 So whether you refill one item or twenty, it all counts 💚 If you’ve been curious about shopping at a refill store, this is your reminder that every small swap matters. Please share this post to help show that everyday actions can create real change ✨ #RefillShop #SmallStepsBigChange #ZeroWaste #PlasticFree #TheCleanKilo EcoFriendlyLiving RefillNotLandfill SustainableLiving EarthDayEveryDay

🌍 Have you ever had an ‘uh-oh’ moment at a refill shop? 😅 Starting something new — whether it’s remembering your containers, trying a refill for the first time, or making a simple swap — isn’t about getting it perfect. Every small step matters 💚 Even refilling just one item = one less piece of plastic. At The Clean Kilo, we see it every day: ✔ forgotten jars ✔ overfilled containers ✔ “I have no idea what I’m doing!” moments …and we LOVE it 💚 Because real change doesn’t come from perfection — it comes from people just giving it a go. We’re a judgement-free space. You don’t have to be an eco expert to shop here (far from it! 🤣) If you’ve been thinking about trying a refill shop — this is your sign 👇 You’ll find: 🌾 pantry staples (rice, pasta, oats) 🍫 treats & snacks 🍞 fresh bread & pastries 🫧 cleaning refills 🧴 personal care 🍵 loose leaf teas & coffee 🌿 herbs, spices & baking essentials No pressure. No judgement. No eco perfectionism 🚫 Want to learn more about imperfect climate action? Link in bio 🌍 Small actions, multiplied, lead to big change 💚 If this resonates, please share and help someone else take their first step 🙌

🌍 Happy Earth Day! The last 6 months have flown by, balancing life at The Clean Kilo (and being a mummy!) alongside working with the fantastic team at @ecobirmingham . I feel incredibly proud to be working as a Project Coordinator on the Building Greener Communities project, helping support people across Birmingham to take simple, positive environmental actions in ways that are practical, accessible and fun! This Saturday, the team (and many brilliant supporters!) are taking on the Birmingham 3 Peaks Challenge — walking across the Lickey Hills, Waseley Hills and Clent Hills to help raise money so ecobirmingham can continue supporting local communities through nature education, community growing, outdoor wellbeing activities and support programmes. This challenge is part of The Big Give Earth Raise campaign, which runs from 22nd–29th April to celebrate Earth Day. 🌍 During this week every donation is DOUBLED, meaning your support goes twice as far for Birmingham communities! 🙌 Earth Day itself is all about recognising how small collective actions can create meaningful change for our planet — something that connects strongly with everything we do at The Clean Kilo too 💚 If you’re able to support (or even just share), it would mean a lot (please click link in bio). https://bit.ly/4ewGS9K Thank you for supporting independent shops, local charities and the people working to make Birmingham that little bit greener everyday! 🌍

🍵 Happy National Tea Day - What's your favourite cuppa?! There’s something special about slowing down with a good cup of tea — and even better when it’s loose leaf, plastic-free and carefully sourced from small independent producers. We stock an extensive & beautiful refill range from: 🌿 Charlotte & Phil at @bornwildtea (based in the Cotswolds) Their blends are inspired by nature and crafted using high-quality ingredients — from everyday favourites like English Breakfast and Earl Grey to more adventurous herbal infusions and fruit blends. 🌼 Queen of Camellia @arlene.emain.burnett (based in Stirchley) Arlene creates thoughtfully blended herbal teas with a more medicinal, wellbeing-focused approach, supporting things like relaxation, digestion and seasonal balance. Loose leaf tea at The Clean Kilo means: ✔ less packaging ✔ better flavour ✔ refillable jars ✔ you can buy as little as you need - so why not try them all!? Whether you’re a classic breakfast tea drinker or exploring herbal blends for the first time, there’s something waiting for you on our tea shelves! Pop in with your jar and celebrate with us! 🍃✨ #NationalTeaDay #LooseLeafTea #RefillShop #TheCleanKilo #ShopLocalBrum

🌊 New Pop Up at The Clean Kilo: Elle Macmillan 📅 19th March – 15th April We’re delighted to welcome local artist @by.elle.macmillan to our Pop Up Space with a beautiful collection exploring seaweed yarn, biomaterials and sustainable textiles. Elle is a multidisciplinary textile artist and material researcher based here in Birmingham, whose work blends natural dyes, weaving, embroidery and experimental biomaterials to rethink how materials can be used more sustainably. Inspired by the colours and textures of blue and green landscapes, her practice often focuses on seaweed as a natural textile material — showing how ocean-based fibres can open up new possibilities for circular design and low-impact making. You’ll find a range of thoughtful, tactile pieces in the space, including: 🪸 Seaweed yarn samples 🐟 Textile artworks inspired by coastal forms 🌿 Naturally dyed materials 📖 Small creative pieces exploring biomaterial storytelling Elle also runs hands-on seaweed yarn workshops, offering a chance to experiment with innovative natural textile processes yourself. This is a particularly special pop up for anyone interested in: ✨ sustainable design ✨ natural materials ✨ textiles and craft ✨ circular economy ideas in practice Pop in and explore this truly unique collection while it’s here! #TheCleanKilo #ShopLocalBrum #SustainableDesign #Biomaterials #TextileArt CircularDesign SeaweedYarn WestMidlandsMakers 🌊
