The Day Our Table Chefs Was Born: Empowering Female Chefs One Headshot at a Time It started with a simple need—I just wanted a new headshot. I had never had a professional photo taken before, and honestly, I almost canceled. I was nervous and second-guessing everything. But something inside me kept urging me to follow through. I was lucky to have a dear friend, @pecheney , someone I’ve known for years, behind the camera. That helped ease my nerves. So did being in a gorgeous kitchen, preparing a dish with some of my favorite ingredients, exchanging a meal for the use of the space. And then there was that chef coat—this bold, beautiful piece made by Hannah Staddon of @funkychefco Wearing that coat, cooking in that kitchen, standing in front of the lens—I saw myself in a new light. I’d never seen myself like that before. And I felt… seen. Confident. Capable. Whole. That photoshoot gave me a spark I didn’t know I needed. As soon as it ended, I called Hannah and told her the idea that had just been born: What if we did this for other women in food? What if we helped them feel seen too? That’s when Our Table Chefs was born. Throughout my career, I’ve had the honor of working alongside some incredible chefs—from my Southern Ground team for five years to the Masters team last April. In most kitchens, I’ve often been the only woman in the room. I’ve worked hard to earn my place, and even harder to support and lift others while doing it. Always with good food and good music. But here’s what I know now: every chef, no matter their background or gender, brings something powerful to the table. The most important ingredient? Passion. Whether it’s for cooking, creating, or nurturing—if that passion is met with respect and support, it ignites something special in all of us. If it’s not, it quickly becomes a chore. Let that sink in. Our Table Chefs is about that ignition. It’s about holding space for women in this industry to feel valued, seen, and celebrated—not just for what they cook, but for who they are. This is just the beginning. #ourtablechefs #ourtable #ourtablechs #womenwhocook #femalechef #femalechefs #privatechef #caterers #yachtchef #entrepreneurship

✨ This could not have come at a better time. A few months ago, I was invited to do my very first podcast with French Kissing Life. At first, I hesitated—stepping outside my comfort zone is never easy. But I said yes, set a date, and promised myself I’d follow through. Fast forward to last month in Nantucket… I almost forgot! I worried it wouldn’t align with my boss’s schedule, but when I shared the news with him and my captain, they immediately said: “You have to do this—we support you.” And that meant everything. 💛 I’m beyond grateful for the support that has carried me through this journey—from my friends and family to this beautiful hospitality community. I never imagined the impact, the relationships, and the opportunities that would come from simply saying yes. Special thanks to my dear friend Paul Cheney for the nudge, Hannah Staddon of Funky Chef Co. for collaborating, Kate Blohm of Kate Blohm Photography for capturing the moments, Chef Katie Williams & Chef Andrea Pharris of the Chef’s Collective for hosting, and Angela Colyer Dupree of Hospitality Revival & President of Les Dames d’Escoffier for championing another round of Our Table Chefs. This has been such an empowering experience. Thank you all for believing in me. 💫 I cannot wait to officially launch the site—Our Table Chefs is coming soon! There’s something about cruising the ICW in my home state of South Carolina that never gets old—salt air, winding waterways, and seafood that feels like it jumped straight from the ocean to the plate. Spring might just be the sweetest time to make the journey. After what felt like a long winter, everything is waking back up… even the dolphins seem to be back in full form. Today’s lunch was a little celebration of that: pan-seared Scallops over a velvety Dijon cream, roasted Sweet Potatoes , and a bright Kale salad tossed in lemon vinaigrette. Simple, seasonal, and deeply satisfying. The boss was happy… and so was I. 😋✨ #southcarolina #icw #seafood #yachtchef #springtime

Have you ever made risotto with Carolina Gold rice? Because let me tell you… it hits different. While docked in Charleston, I came across some Crawfish Boudin at Ted’s Butcher Block and couldn’t pass it up. It felt like the perfect opportunity to showcase a few locally sourced ingredients and tell a deeper story through the plate—especially for my Irish boss, who not only loves food, but the history behind it. Charleston’s cuisine is layered with influence—from West African traditions to Lowcountry staples—and Carolina Gold rice sits right at the heart of that story. So instead of a traditional risotto, I leaned into those roots. Here we have a Crawfish Boudin & Shrimp Risotto finished with Monterey Jack Cheese with sautéed okra. A dish that bridges cultures, ingredients, and history all in one bite. And the best part? It was his first time trying okra… and he loved it. There’s something special about introducing someone to a new ingredient, a new place, a new story—through food. That’s what it’s all about. #carolinagold #crawfish #supper #yachtchef #charlestonsc

A year ago last month, something shifted. An idea turned into action — Our Table Chefs — created to empower local female chefs by starting with something powerful: visibility. Headshots. Stories. A seat at the table. Since then, that ripple has grown into something I could have never imagined… including the honor of being asked to join the Charleston Chapter of Les Dames d’Escoffier International. What I’ve learned most this past year is this: we were never meant to do this alone. Camaraderie creates community, and community creates strength. When we show up for each other, we lift, we support, and we collaborate. We stop carrying the weight alone and start building something bigger together. Every woman brings something different to the table — culture, story, experience, and perspective. And in that, we find connection. That includes the women behind the scenes — the writers, storytellers, and influencers — who amplify our voices, the managers who keep everything moving seamlessly in the front of the house, and the men who support, respect, and stand alongside us as allies in this industry. I am endlessly inspired by this community. But what do we all share most? A deep passion for our community. We choose community over competition because, at the end of the day, we are stronger together. Women should not only be honored one month out of the year — we deserve to be honored every single day. And if you’re reading this, take a moment to honor yourself. Honor the time we have on this planet, because tomorrow is never promised. And we’re just getting started. #womeninhospitality #strongertogether #femalechefs #comminity #ourtablechefs

When you’re craving Chicken Tinga… you make it. I’ve had this dish on my mind since I left Savannah, and if you know me, you know my love for Mexican food runs deep. When the craving hits, there’s no ignoring it. So I built the bowl exactly how I wanted it—Chicken Tinga, rice, avocado, cilantro, red onions, roasted delicata squash, red butter lettuce, and tomatoes. Topped with some @mrbingnyc Crunchy 🌶️ Oil. Fresh, bold, and hitting every note. I feel very fortunate being able to translate a craving into a creation—right in my own kitchen. I will freeze the rest for another meal. #chickentinga #mexican #chef #cravingsatisfied #charleston

I’ve been taking a little time to reflect on my last charter… 🤍 From my flight from Miami to Martinique — where one of the guests, Lucy, accidentally sat next to me (and thankfully was able to stay) — we had the chance to get to know each other before she even stepped on board. What are the odds? Some things are just meant to be. Then came meeting her beautiful friends from France — 35 years of friendship between them. What a rare and special thing to witness. The stories, the laughter, the quiet moments at sea… the horizon endlessly shifting with the tides. It wasn’t just a charter. It was an experience — one they shared with us, and one I will forever be grateful to have been chosen to be part of. This week is now a chapter I’ll always cherish. Thank you, Marie! #friendship #sailing #martinique #saintlucia #charter

Celebrating 20 years of the @chswineandfood Festival🥂 For five incredible days, our city comes alive in celebration of hospitality at its very best. Hospitality is the friendly, generous reception of guests — creating moments that make people feel welcomed, comfortable, and cared for. It’s warmth, kindness, generosity, and connection happening under rooftops all across Charleston. Charleston has long been known for its hospitality, but it’s also known for its flavors — rooted in a rich and layered culinary history that continues to inspire chefs, makers, farmers, and storytellers. One thing I’ve learned working in this industry: where there is passion, there can also be despair. When you care deeply about your craft, the highs are incredible — but the lows can feel heavy. The beautiful part of this community is that you never carry it alone. This city shows up for one another. It lifts you when you need lifting and fills your heart when it needs filling. I’m so honored to live and work in a place that does both. What an incredible way to spend a long weekend in Charleston. I am beyond inspired by the incredible talent we have as well as the incredible chefs that were welcomed to be a part of this festival. If you’ve never attended, you’re truly missing out. Save the date: March 3–7, 2027. We’ll be ready to welcome you. 🍍🥂💫 #chswineandfood #charleston #charlestonsouthcarolina #wineandfood #hospitality
