The hardest part of family photography is also my favorite part: the unfiltered reality.. I loved this couple when I shot their wedding, and I loved documenting their growing family. Their reaction — “This is HIM” — is the one I want most.
If you want photos that actually look like your life, but the thought of a full-day documentary shoot makes you want to lie down, I’m rolling out short-form “Morning in the Life” and “Evening in the Life” sessions. We capture the genuine, unposed morning routine (or evening wind-down) and grab a few great traditional portraits while everyone is most ready for it.
2014 caption: This was shot as more of a silhouette and brightened afterward, to the equivalent of around 16,000 ISO
2026 caption: Aw heck, let’s take this up another stop or two. Life begins at ISO 40,000.

Miranda and Vanessa: three of the funniest speeches I’d ever heard, a poker champion, and the most effortlessly calm energy I’ve ever felt at a wedding. Fantastic day, fantastic people, fantastic light.

A while ago, Jan booked a portrait session with a note: “Maybe it will be our engagement photos someday.”
That “someday” arrived in months. By September, Jan was engaged to Clark—a cancer surgeon and survivor, and an amazing guy. Within eight weeks, we were on 30A for their wedding.
From a sunrise brunch to a candlelit ceremony at @thechapelatseaside , the day was about the power of “reach goals.” We chased the fast Florida sunset for portraits before a @lightmeupbeachbonfires after-party.

The Vidaii is traditionally a goodbye, but often it’s just pure, tactile connection. Aneri’s mom reaching out here isn’t a “perfect” image generated by a prompt; it’s a specific, fleeting reality. As we said in our last post, 2026 is about doubling down on the real; recording the actual photons of how you move through the world with the people you love.
Speaking of photons: this is our first test of an HDR gain-mapped image here. It’s finicky tech with plenty of complications, but it offers a massive opportunity to display light exactly as it felt. @hanovermarriott

Not a lot of people know that the first draft of Archimedes' quote was "give me an amazing bride, the gorgeous windows of the @yaleclubnyc … and I could move the world."
While we were walking around Prospect Park for Sarah and Ethan’s engagement shoot, Ethan asked me how I scout during a shoot. I told him the truth: I’m scouting all the time.
Then I pulled out a party trick from my old (and future) workshop days. I had a 35mm, 50mm, and 135mm with me. I pointed at a tree trunk and said, “From here, I fill the frame at 135. From here, at 50. From here, at 35.” Never once put the camera to my eye.
And then we put it into practice. There was this beautiful tree … currently buried under a giant birthday party. Fine. Good for them. Happy birthday. But if you stand here, far from the tree, and I stand here, far from you … the 135 turns fifty people into a couple of bokeh balls, the chaos into color. What’s left is just the joy you have in each other.
And THEN I picked up the camera.
The best part of office work as a wedding photographer is getting to re-live the emotions and beauty and moments from our shoots. With a couple like this, a venue like @thewilliamvale , and the perfectly named team at AWE Amazing Weddings & Events (@awebykerry ), it’s joy from start to finish.
Katie and David are every bit as delightful as they look here. To call them “involved in musical theatre” is a dramatic understatement, and their wedding at Brooklyn’s @501union was filled with show-stopping performances from friends and family, each more stellar than the last.
We keep wishing there was a hashtag for “really great people,” but whatever we’re doing, it’s working: We’re lucky to be surrounded by clients we’d want to hang out with any day. This wedding was planned to absolute perfection by @mrjasonmitchell
