They say don’t meet your heroes, but I can 10/10 recommend meeting Bruce Springsteen.
We chatted about Harry Chapin, about music as an agent of change, about how he saw Harry do something no one else was doing.
Using music for social justice has lineages across contexts and geographies and genres and languages and time. It is incredible to connect with those who have been doing this work before me, all over the world. And to learn, to push forward, to hold that history and apply it. But this particular conversation - it will stick with me forever.
I feel so much gratitude and humility to hold the torch at this funny little intersection of culture and social change. The excitement I’ve got to keep building upon this work has never felt stronger.
As Little Steven once said, “As long as there is injustice and problems in the world, we should talk about them. And rock n roll is the best communication we have.”
And that fire alarm? Got us in Rolling Stone!

I’m still processing the magic of Thursday night. Dreaming this up with @simoneking_@saintjhn@thebrightpursuit to support food justice initiatives was a highlight of the year, emblematic of how and why I feel so fulfilled working with artists to build their legacy of impact. This dinner brought together makers of change and of culture, in pursuit of solidarity, in pursuit of affecting lasting impact, in pursuit of a world where nutritious food is a human right. Nina Simone said it best: it is an artist’s duty to reflect the times.
