YUNG, GIFTED N BLACK 🙂↕️💅🏽// endlessly thrilled and honored to be part such an fckn badass exhibition of incredible artists with @positivestreetart under the iconic curatorial vision of my boo @phat_riot 🤍 the Barbershop was an exploration of our own personal connection to our visual aesthetic, self care, hair, the perception of beauty and how it relates to our own culture; a concept which really resonated with me and allowed me to produce some really personal pieces out of labors of love, trial, and tribulation. my own journey with my hair and my perception of beauty in myself has been long, difficult, and full of a lot of unpacking difficult emotions and experiences as a POC unafraid to live out loud as a “weirdo” within our predominantly white region. creating and sharing these pieces with the world allowed me space to communicate the otherness I nearly always feel into an expression of something more than discomfort, into a process of growth and finding oneself as you wish to be. i am so endlessly thankful for my incredible community, to have friends who showed out for me (u kno who u are!) and most of all to exist in the company of such iconic badass POC femme creatives like Yassi, @scruff_mcduffie , @justce and @mariapoakleyart to forever guide me as friends and carving out space for me amongst their greatness🥹 ((also you have to peep Yaz’ insane pieces on slides 5/6 i can’t stop looking at ‘em)) 🤎

•@doechii bringing back what it means to be a true performer dedicated to your craft. Doechii’s School of HipHop was an absolutely brilliant, thrilling, dynamic, deeply creative live show that not only showed the depth of passion and drive to her live show and songwriting, but also to studying the greats that came before her - across all genres!!!!!! (soooooo musical theatre and classic dance and hollywood inspired she literally was wearing t-strap character shoes 😭) truly once in a lifetime star IMO. there is nothing i love more than studying, witnessing, learning, and practicing the art of performance, creating a live experience, and engagement especially in people with that sheer *It* factor which Doechii certainly holds en masse 🤍
