Originally from Chicago, Sonya began her training in ballet at Ruth Page. She then received a degree in Dance and Anthropology from Fordham University/The Ailey School in New York City. While in New York, she danced in original works by artists including Annie Rigney, Ingrid Kapetyn, and Alexander Anderson and performed in Bad Binch TongTong’s New York Fashion Week show with Stefanie Nelson Dancegroup. She continued her practice at Nuova Oficina della Danza in Italy, under the direction of Tom Weinberger. There, she had the opportunity to collaborate with international artists including Ella Rothschild and Paxton Ricketts, and went on to work closely with Ella Rothschild on her latest creation for Festpielhuas Baden-Baden and Kammerballeten. At the core of Sonya’s practice is an open heart and a deep connection to her inner stillness.
Sara grew up in North Idaho, moved to San Antonio, Texas, then journeyed to New York for the Fordham University and Ailey School BFA program. She’s trained in ballet, contemporary, modern, partnering, and holds her BFA in Dance & Sociology. At Ailey, she performed works by Alexander Anderson, Maleek Washington, Rebecca Margolick, and Georgia Usborne. Since graduating, she has worked with companies like Tabula Rasa Dance Theater, Dishman & Co Choreography, Zehnder Dance, and as a freelancer; performing around the city and New England. Immersed in work-study opportunities with Gallim and B12, she worked with Raja Feather Kelly, Scott Jennings, Marion Sparber, Kayla Farrish, and more. She finds grounding in creative practice. She has been honored to create for Unbound Dance Collective, Creaturespace Commonspace with STORMWRKS, and show work at Green Lung.
Together, they honor their creative sources to inform shared process.
