Some of my favorite memories from the past three months came out of big favors I was doing for friends. Sometimes you’re drowning in chaos and you don’t wanna inconvenience friends but sometimes being asked to take on someone else’s burden can feel like a gift (obviously sometimes it just feels fucking annoying too so) cause I think we all know ppl around us who would like to feel useful and they wanna be a part of something. Like, life is crazy right now and I think a lot of us are looking for ways to do good things but are just too overwhelmed by debt and bills and familial obligations for anything else, so if you can make it easy for someone to be helpful I think more ppl will jump at the chance than you realize. Lol but I also feel like the ppl who need to read this are probably too busy with their lives tho and I hope this post doesn’t end up emboldening that one shameless friend who’s like “I think this is the universe telling me to ask my friend with the truck to help me move for free” whatever dude I’m gonna hit send anyway please don’t yell at me if this leads to someone begging you to sub to their boyfriends Substack.
@charliepolinger ‘s outstanding directorial debut The Plague - fresh from #cannesfilmfestival - has its Australian premiere at @sydfilmfest tomorrow night. I had a wild time cutting this deeply affecting film about adolescence, fear of non conformity & the difficulty we face making the right choices at every stage of our lives.
Two screenings - this Wednesday & Saturday. Get along. Make sure you’re vaccinated.
