I have long been in awe of the creative force that is Suzanne Demisch. She is a visual poet, her unique way of seeing the world is an inspiration to myself and to many. She might tell a story with a pile of rocks, an historic piece of art, or a hot pink sofa, it doesn’t matter what the components are, there is a good chance you have never seen it done exactly the way she does it. Suzanne has always been a treasure hunter, looking for objects that tell a story.
In 2019, Suzanne was diagnosed with Primary Progressive Aphasia (PPA), a rare neurological condition that gradually impaired language abilities such as speaking, reading and comprehension.
I have had the privilege of supporting Suzanne, loving her, walking beside her as she has adjusted to the changes that come with PPA.
Despite the challenges, Suzanne has continued to live a full, expressive life. I am astounded by her curiosity and bravery.
In honor of my friend, I am hosting an exhibition and silent auction in support of the National Aphasia Association. The auction features post-war furniture pieces selected by Suzanne, alongside works by leading artists and designers.
The event will provide the opportunity to shop from Suzanne’s personal textile collection. I have also curated a selection of food and home goods inspired by my friendship with Suzanne.
