Advocate for yourself!
That's the lesson Stephanie Duckett carries from the CMPA's mentorship program. The program helped Stephanie define her goals and start seeing herself as a producer in her own right. Working in film in Alberta, she knows how much mentorships matter for growing and sustaining talent in the industry.
Her advice to new mentees? Ask lots of questions, explore different areas of the job, and challenge yourself. The experience you get is the experience you seek out.

Much of what the Pacific Screenwriting Program is today is owed to the vision, stewardship, and dedication of Liz Shorten, who served as a founding board member from 2018 through earlier this year.
Thank you, Liz, for your years of advocacy, leadership, and commitment to supporting screenwriters and the broader BC film and television community. Your impact on the program — and the people within it — has been immense.
Thank you, the Hon. Minister @marcmillervillemarie and the Hon. @stevenguilbeault , for today’s announcement regarding the renewal of the Creative Export Strategy, and for recognizing the vital role that Canada's creative industries play in our national identity and economy. With $95 million over the next five years and $19 million annually thereafter, these investments will help provide Canada’s film and TV producers with a stable foundation to innovate and compete on the world stage, ensuring that we remain a global cultural leader. Nancy Shaw came through the CMPA's National Mentorship Program and took away something no classroom could quite teach: what it really looks like to be a producer, day to day, project to project.
Today, she works with the Northwest Territories Film Commission (@nwtfilm ), administering funding programs and helping guest productions find their footing in an incredible part of the country.
Her advice to new mentees? Invest 100% of yourself in the journey; it'll pay off threefold. 💚
Here's to 30 years of CMPA’s mentorship program! 🎬
