1989… it’s BC’s Grapes of Wrath and their 3rd album Now and Again released on Capitol records… arguably one of the best A-Sides i’ve ever heard… just fantastic tracks one after another… This band was actually my “seen live the most” for most of the 90s until the Reverend Horton Heat surpassed them (by quite a bit by now actually) … two totally different types of music as well but hey, I like most music so… it tracks. Anyway, probably my fave Canadian record if i had to pick one.

A “Brick of Records” This is what 3h of spinning 45s looks like! It’s actually only a touch shorter because my night ventured into 70s funk and a bit of disco where the songs are longer than 2min! Another fun night @the_avro_restaurant on Locke! We do this every Thursday. @andyinglis13 and i usually do alternate weeks but it doesn’t matter, the vibe is the same every week! Come check it out!

Fun night last night at what looks to be the final SLACKER for a bit. Come check out the final Outer Limits on May 16th. I’m putting both nights on hiatus for the summer and may try to find another venue in the fall but I will still be spinning that Motown Sound at AVRO restaurant on Locke on alternate Thursdays in the meantime.. I also have an upcoming “One Off” Outer Limits with The Fuzz Vultures on July 31st at Ooey Gooeys where i will be spinning Surf, Garage and Fuzz 45s whilst they perform a couple sets live! Special thanks to @inventor_dr_abstract and Daryl for the awesome video contributions to both Outer Limits AND SLACKER… They definitely helped add to the mood of the night s! Until Next Time…..

Catch the final monthly SLACKER tomorrow night and the final monthly Outer Limits on May 16th! Life’s been good but there are a few reasons for this decision: 1. I started these nights at a bar that doesn’t have DJ nights so as fun as it is, it’s always going to be a challenge for me AND the bar to make it successful! And hey, this frees up time for more local bands to have a proper venue! 2. Great weather is coming to a patio near you! Hell even i would rather be on a patio than in a club… ‘nuff said 3. I just need a bit of a break… I’ve been spinning a lot lately. I’m not quitting but i am going to be more selective going forward like my gig with Garage Surf greats The Fuzz Vultures on July 31st and my standing Thursdays weekly at Avro Restaurant on Locke St So keep an eye on my accounts for new gigs that will pop up from time to time and make a plan to come see me… it’s going to be a bit harder to do in the coming months but hey, I’m worth it! More info to come about other gigs but just come on out to SLACKER tomorrow night @therealooeygooeys and say hello… or goodbye as the case may be!

Lou Johnson - Unsatisfied (BigTop 1965) Happy Zombie jesus weekend! This track is actually the b-side to “A Time To Love - A Time To Cry (Petite Fleur)” but completely outshines the A-side! This is the West Coast pressing on the yellow label as opposed to the more common blue label. Lou was from Brooklyn NY and had some other great releases but this one always stuck with me. I believe it’s not particularly in vogue at the moment but i wouldn’t know as i have all but abandoned the “Northern” scene these days. #the45selector #soul #45rpm #vinyl

The Beatles Esher Demos I found this CD at a thrift shop a while back and whilst i have no need for yet ANOTHER White Album, this 50th Anniversary Super Deluxe box (2018) came with the Esher Demos and i have been madly in love with this album ever since! Apparently these were the demos created by the band in ‘68 after their trip to India and would form the basis of the White Album. Most songs are already fully realized but completely acoustic with no effects etc and anyone who claims the Beatles were not supremely talented, only need to hear them in their most basic form to have their minds changed… This was also released on vinyl and i will hunt it down for a reasonable price but for now i am enjoying what i have.. This album could have sold millions on its own! Anyway, I added Polythene Pam from my own collection as the sound bite so we’ll see if it gets flagged and removed or not. Some end of the night videos that i finally had time for on my solo run last night… This was basically after most people had left but we’re still working on building this weekly Thursday night thing @the_avro_restaurant It’s a challenge to train people that there’s more going on in this city on nights that aren’t Friday and Saturday, but @andyinglis13 and i are here for it and Avro is such a cool place! Great Sound, Fantastic food and drinks AND space to dance! See you next week!
