SEOUL [ON VIEW] <REDSHIDTED FUTURE>는 갤러리에서 관객과 마주하는 임현중의 첫 번째 개인전이다. ‘적색편이’라는 제목이 암시하듯, 작가는 회화라는 고전적 필터를 통해 가속의 시대를 감각 가능한 거리로 끌어당기며 붓질로 복원한 행성들의 거친 질감을 우리 앞에 펼쳐 놓는다. 이번 전시는 묵직한 회화적 실체들이 모여 구축한 임현중만의 우주를 만나는 자리이자 앞으로 더욱 넓게 확장될 그의 세계관이 내딛는 첫걸음이 될 것이다. <REDSHIDTED FUTURE> marks Hyunjoong’s first solo exhibition with THE THIRD. The title, drawn from the concept of redshift, suggests a perceptual displacement through which the accelerated conditions of the present are rendered tangible. [ART FAIR] THE THIRD는 4월 23일부터 26일까지 부산에서 개최되는 미디어 아트페어 LOOP PLUS에 유르겐 스탁과 함께 참가합니다. 유르겐 스탁(b. 1978)은 사진, 사운드, 언어, 설치, 미디어를 아우르며, 이미지와 언어를 중심으로 작업하는 독일의 개념미술 작가입니다. 이번 LOOP PLUS에서 선보이는 그의 《Erosion DMZ》는 비무장지대(DMZ)에서 촬영된 이미지를 석영 모래 위에 인쇄하고, 심장 박동의 진동을 통해 이미지가 흔들리고 붕괴되는 과정을 다루는 작업입니다. 이미지는 끊임없이 이동하며 형태를 바꾸고 점차 분해되며, 이러한 변화는 수백 장의 프레임으로 포착되어 시간의 축적으로 드러납니다. 이 작업은 침식되는 국경의 상태를 통해 국경의 의미를 질문하며, 동독에서 자란 작가의 개인적 경험을 바탕으로 2026년 한국의 현재를 향한 시선으로 확장됩니다. THE THIRD will participate in LOOP PLUS, Busan, from April 23–26, with Juergen Staack. Juergen Staack (b.1978) is a German conceptual artist working across photography, sound, language, installation, and video. Presented at LOOP PLUS, it is based on images taken in the Demilitarized Zone (DMZ), printed on fine quartz sand and set into vibration by a transducer that plays a heartbeat. The image shifts and gradually disintegrates; this process is recorded across hundreds of frames, forming a time-based work in which minute changes accumulate. SEOUL [UPCOMING] THE THIRD는 신진 작가의 첫 개인전을 지원하는 프로그램을 시작합니다. 그 첫 번째 작가로 임현중의 개인전 <REDSHIFTED FUTURE>를 4월 21일부터 개최합니다. 임현중은 SF적 상상력과 로봇을 통해 동시대의 풍경을 해체하고 재배열하며, 회화적 노동을 통해 이미지를 다시 구축합니다. 이번 전시는 작가의 디스토피아적 상상과 동시대의 현실이 교차하는 장면들을 통해, ‘이미 경험한 듯한 미래’의 감각을 드러냅니다. THE THIRD launches a program supporting artists’ first solo exhibitions. It opens with <REDSHIFTED FUTURE>, a solo exhibition by Hyunjoong Im, on view from April 21. Im works with SF imagery and the figure of the robot to dismantle and reconfigure contemporary landscapes. Images are reconstituted through a sustained painterly process. SEOUL [ON VIEW] 피정원 작가의 개인전 <triptych>이 이번 주 토요일 종료됩니다. 삼면화는 오랜 회화의 역사 속에서 하나의 장면을 넘어 서사와 시간, 인식의 단계를 나누어 제시하는 장치로 기능해 왔다. 피정원의 삼면화 역시 특정 신앙적 의미를 호출하지는 않지만, 평면을 대하는 태도의 엄격함과 회화 형식에 대한 자의식을 드러내는 듯하다. 이러한 접근은 회화를 우상화하는 것이 아니라, 평면이라는 매체가 지닌 사유의 가능성을 신중하게 다루려는 작가의 연구적 태도로 해석된다. 화면은 표현의 결과이기 이전에 사유의 대상이며, 반복과 덧칠, 기다림의 개입을 통해 축적되는 수행적 공간이 된다. 이는 작가가 사유의 시간으로서, 표현의 공간으로서의 회화 그 자체를 얼마나 귀히 여겨왔는지 느낄 수 있는 지점이다. 전시장 구성 또한 이러한 태도를 확장한다. 절제된 배열과 깊이 있는 색의 공간, 고전 형식을 환기하는 프레임 장치는 종교적 상징을 재현하기 위한 연출이 아니라, 회화를 다시 응시의 중심으로 돌려놓기 위한 장치로 읽힌다. 관객의 이목을 집중시키고, 시선의 이동 속도를 자연스럽게 늦추며, 화면 앞에 보다 오래 머무르게 하기 위함이다. 이는 마치 추상 회화를 동시대적 실험의 영역에만 머무르게 하지 않고, 여전히 탐구의 대상으로 다루려는 형식적 제안에 가깝다. Jungwon Phee’s solo exhibition <triptych> closes this Saturday. Triptych inevitably recalls its art historical role as a device for organizing narrative, time, and stages of awareness. This reference does not restore symbolic authority; instead, it reflects a heightened awareness of painting as a medium with its own conditions and limits. The surface becomes less a site of expression than a space of sustained attention, shaped through repetition, layering, and duration. Painting operates here both as a material practice and as a space in which thought unfolds over time. The exhibition design extends this attitude. A restrained installation, a deep chromatic atmosphere, and framing devices that quietly echo historical display are not intended as symbolic gestures. Rather, they draw attention back to the act of looking. Triptych. 트립티크는 하나의 사건을 단계적으로 인식하게 만드는 형식이며, 나는 그 시간적 인식의 구조를 집중한다. 이번 작업에서 트립티크(삼면화)는 제단의 의미나 종교적 형식을 차용하기 위한 선택이 아니다. 내가 주목한 지점은, 이 형식이 본래 하나의 정지된 장면을 묘사하기보다 사건이 진행되는 시간의 내부를 나누어 보여주기 위해 사용되어 왔다는 점이다. 즉, 트립티크는 하나의 사건을 동시가 아니라 단계적으로 인식하게 만드는 구조이며, 이 과정에서 관객은 자연스럽게 시간의 흐름을 경험하게 된다.“ -작가노트- "Why triptych. The triptych is a structure that allows an event to be apprehended in stages. My interest lies in this temporal framework of perception. In this work, the triptych is not adopted for its associations with the altar or religious form. What draws me to it is its capacity to articulate time, not as a single, fixed image, but as something unfolding. Rather than presenting an event as simultaneous, the triptych introduces it sequentially.
