In a hotel room, where strangers arrive from all over the world to shed pieces of themselves in private, I installed this site specific work, โAn Iconโs Last Wishโ (2026) with works from my Artverse solo show.
The work turns the vanity into an altar, a place where the self is dressed, rehearsed, and worshipped into image. But the mirror offers no reassurance. It reflects not the ideal, but bone: a memento mori for the age of self-construction. Within my framework of Pothosophy, I wanted to think about our desire to become unforgettable, and the intimacy of wanting to be adored not for what we are, but for the image we ache toward and worship before it even exists.
For this installation, I incorporated a Joseon cabinet vanity alongside Goryeo and Joseon beauty tools, cosmetic containers, hair oil bottles, and funerary objects. Together with the projection, they frame vanity as a tender ritual against disappearance.
The sound accompanying the installation is an excerpt from my longer composition, โThe Inkโ (2026). It began with temple recordings, whose instrumental textures were transformed, replaced, and re-layered through AI into a more unstable sonic architecture. In this process, the original devotional atmosphere is neither preserved nor erased, but translated into a sound of yearning suspended between ritual, memory, and desire.
