The @norfolkfolkloresociety team did an incredible job with their giant puppets! In fact all the puppets and costumes in the parade were fantastic 🙂

I would have liked to spend longer there, but my van was extremely reluctant to start that morning so I didn’t dare turn the engine off…
Sumer is Icumen in, and I’ve finally managed to get this in a frame. Did I decided that making a frame from scratch would be easier then repurposing an antique bed head for the job? Yes. Was it? Absolutely not. Oh well. A smidge over 18” x 33” including the frame, plasma cut by hand, heat coloured, a resist carefully applied, painted, resist removed, and lacquered. The frame is made from recycled pine and yes it looks burnt because it was, to bring out the grain and add character. Hand-stamped aged copper tag. A lie down in a dark room because woodworking is not my forté.

It’s only taken me nine months, but she’s finally ready. Angel Blake, in all her glory.
Plasma cut by hand from 2mm steel, heat coloured, four coats of protective matte lacquer, with the immortal words “Rise now from the forest, from the furrows, from the field, and live” painstakingly engraved and stained into the oiled exotic wood frame. And I decided to go a little extra, adding a warm white LED backlight, dimmable and with multiple light patterns. I almost painted the backboard with glow in the dark paint, but decided that might be overkill (if you really want it though, it can be done!). Including the frame the piece is 1.25m wide (approx., accurate measurements to be added)

Have you ever dreamed of having your very own stone circle? Perhaps one in danger of being trod upon by a dwarf? Here’s your chance!
Well, there’s three stones… and they’re made from 3mm plate… so I guess it’s technically more of a steel triangle, but you get the idea.
Made in collaboration with Stone Wizard @stone_wizzard this is the first set of “stones”, we have more ideas and more planned!
Each “stone” is made from two pieces of 3mm mild steel plate which slot together to form a three dimensional-ish monolith. No need to drag them from the quarry, these pack flat for shipping.
They vary in height from 16” to 23”, and width from 11” to 21”. They were made from salvaged steel so I was limited by the size of the pieces I could find, which turned out not to be a bad thing… I haven’t weighed them yet but I can describe them as “hefty”. I carried all three a mile and a half down a track to photograph them because the gate to the reserve was locked. And a mile and a half back again. My arms almost fell off, the whole time cursing my decision to go into metalwork instead of lacemaking….
They took forever to cut 😩 I melted the plug on my plasma cutter due to my workshop’s not-really-up-to-the-job power supply, so I had to cut them a little bit at a time over three weeks to avoid destroying my kit 😬 My share from the sale of these will go towards a much-needed electrical upgrade at The Knacker’s Yard HQ so we can make more. Bigger, better, and safer!
