I have a hard time celebrating successes. I’ve been recognizing lately that it’s easier for me to hold tragedy, but I’m trying to adjust my neurochemistry and celebrate this success with y’all. One of my poems has been published by @phillyinquirer digitally and in print tomorrow (Sunday, 4/16) paper. This is an appreciation post for @ironagetheatre making explicitly p0litical theater in a time where these stories are most desperately needed. Please go out and support these two incredible solo show by local artists. Learn from their stories, get curious about where these men were then and where you are now. I had the pleasure of seeing both of these pieces and they remain stirring and dancing in my mind and I am so very thankful. Tonight and tomorrow is all that is left! Go go go. That’s all. Pulling myself from under the weight of all that is beautiful and brutal to say that if you need some words of rage or comfort tonight is a rare poetry evening for me alongside some incredible poets. I’ve been battling some health issues and chronic pain and I’ll be sharing some new shit tonight that I’ve been using to process the times and the times. There’s so much more I keep wanting to do but I suppose I’m learning a new rhythm, and accepting my ass will remain non-linear forevermore. Or grow at its own pace as my plants continually teach me. Yesterday was Audre Lorde’s birthday so tonight we’ll be bringing her words into the space and I wanted to share some I’ve been thinking on: “I was going to die, sooner or later, whether or not I had even spoken myself. My silences had not protected me. Your silences will not protect you.... What are the words you do not yet have? What are the tyrannies you swallow day by day and attempt to make your own, until you will sicken and die of them, still in silence? We are one day away from Conquistawhore’s ride at @varietypackcomedy , so here’s an appreciation post for some of the humans and organizations that have nurtured us along the way! Let’s talk about the FOP (the Friends of Pete that is). I have been blessed to have these beloved musicians as brilliant friends and inspiring collaborators over the years. I am so humbled and grateful for their presence and artistry along this journey - especially the OG cowboy that is Chris Sannino (@sanninosound ) who is joined by the equally brilliant multi-instrumentalists that are Evan Raines (@philly_phiddler ) and Emily Schuman (@emilyschumanmusic ). Here’s a few photos of our SWAC recording session, generously funded by @1812_productions Extra Couple Bucks Fund. Come check us out tomorrow night (Thursday 1/22) at 10pm. That’s right. 10pm. I haven’t posted here in a long time. I have been so filled with gratitude, surprise, rage, grief, despair, accomplishment, confusion, horror, [insert more emotions here] that I have had a hard time wrestling my little words to fill the weight on either end of the spectrum. That being said maybe the grief alive in my body is also love. So I’m trying to break my own silence in gratitude for the community that helps to sustain me in so many ways. I am so grateful of the opportunities from last year that allowed me to fall in love with Cleveland, befriend the most beautiful Willow Tree, and meet a Great Lake for the first time. I am so thankful for the time to build new, and nurture old, connections with beloveds near and far.
