A homecoming to their origins,
@chanelofficial returns to the city of Biarritz for their Cruise 2026/27 show, also marking the debut Cruise collection by Matthieu Blazy. In this occasion, the house invites their lineup of star-studded friends like #ASAPRocky, #NicoleKidman, Nana Komatsu, and Tilda Swinton to watch, while ambassador
@bhavithamandava graces the runway.
The city was, in fact the first location where #Chanel opened their couture house and presented their first collection in, finding inspiration from the city’s collision with nature while still oozing modernity.
In Blazy’s eyes, “It is a place that offers the perfect balance between function and fiction. Among artists, workers, nobility, sailors and the natural world, everyone and everything shared the same stage, living together as a norm. All had a role to play.”
For his Cruise debut, Blazy seeks inspiration from two different ends. Adoring the real comfort and ease of functional French workwear through the silk ensembles, raffia skirts, and washed cotton canvas suiting. While also indulging in the nautical fantasies of the ocean, sailors, and mermaids through the fish-scale pailettes, motifs resembling corals, and a more playful color palette.
In the accessories front, he reinforces the idea of a journey while pertaining the spirit of wander, mixing practicality with playfulness. Waterproof flap bags with striped motifs, Art-Deco-inspired mid-length heels, and jewelry that feels somewhat beachy yet chic enough to wear for a busy day.
It’s always fascinating to see how new voices reinterpret a historical sentiment, and this was definitely one for the books.
@matthieu_blazy ‘s #CHANELCruise debut shows how the director is able to create pieces that invites viewers to dream and fantasize while still remaining relevant and wearable in current context.
