‘mother, my blood; father, my bones’ follows the cyclical and, oftentimes, unstable nature of hegemonic, patriarchal familial dynamics and the impact they can have on those who undergo primary socialization within this structure. as those children grow to the age where they must both reckon with their parents as humans (in the same way in which they, themselves, are humans) and begin to establish themselves as individuals outside of their family unit, how can the deconstruction of a once sanitized view of their parents’ relationship bring both their childhood memories and own relational propensities into new light?
