ALMA, South Circular Road, Dublin. ALMA means ‘SOUL’ in Spanish and it also stands for the initials of the four daughters in the family: Anabella, Luciana, Macarena and Agustina. Moving over from Argentina and living in Dublin for a few years has taught them so much about food. They believe Ireland is on such an incredible growing culinary journey that they want to participate in. They decided to put together a seasonal menu featuring local Irish produce with Argentinian flavours. I had read about Alma in Paddy Kirk’s book The Dublin Coffee Guide. I’m trying to get to visit as many of the coffee shops on his guide book as possible with Ellen Keane @alma.dublin @ellen_keane_ @paddy__kirk @thedublincoffeeguide @thebestcoffeeshops.ie #dublín #café #foodie #foodies #coffee ee 19A Curzon Street, Portobello Dublin 8, Ireland Hours Monday – Friday 8.00am – 4.00 pm (food until 3.30) Saturday - Sunday 8.00am - 5.00pm (food until 4.00)

Limerick’s Dog Friendly Cafe with a Sustainable Twist The Poppy Cup in Adare was founded by Evelyne Mancassola, combining her lifelong passion for hospitality with her love of dogs. Growing up in her family’s coffee shop, she dreamed of opening her own cafe and seized the opportunity during her final year at the University of Limerick. Named after her dog, Poppy, the cafe is designed to welcome both people and their pups, creating a warm and stylish space for dog lovers. But beyond its pet friendly appeal, The Poppy Cup is also committed to sustainability, ensuring that every aspect of the business supports eco-conscious choices. Evelyne selected Green Ocean Coffee, a brand that restores one square metre of seagrass bed for every kilogram of coffee purchased, helping to protect marine life. The cafe’s signature baby-pink cups, sourced from Cork-based Down to Earth Materials, are fully recyclable, and customers are encouraged to bring their own keep-cups. By integrating sustainability into everything from packaging to supplier choices, The Poppy Cup offers not just great coffee, but a business model that gives back to the planet. @thepoppycup #limerick #dogs #bagel #coffee #waffle

In Borris, Co Carlow, Joyce’s pub opens its doors far earlier than others. Not for pints, but for pastries. Queues form before opening every Friday and Saturday morning and the pastries and loaves that adorn the former grocery counter often sell out before lunchtime. Plúr is the bakery brand of local Seamus Jordan, a chef originally but now one of the leading lights in Ireland’s bakery scene. Passionate about organic, native grains and regenerative tillage farming, he named his bakery after the Irish word for flour and has a hand in every part of the operation. He grows and stone-grinds the wheat, produces the bakes and sells directly to his customers - the epitome of farm to fork. Plúr represents the new wave of Irish baking: thoughtful, hyperlocal, and grounded in community. In his mind, Seamus is just baking each week for his neighbours, but through his dedication and skill he has put Borris on the map as a food destination and given the local, 100-year-old pub a whole new lease of life. @plurbakery @carrowcoffee #bread #flour #carlow #coffee #pub @thebestcoffeeshops.ie

Brother Bear. Emma and Cian came up with a great concept here. The old filling station nearby was in need of a revival, so together with their family, they completely gutted and transformed it into what it is today. It took a huge amount of hard work, especially as both Emma and Cian were working and studying full-time throughout the process. The concept is really unique, it was about bringing new life to the building in a fresh way. They’ve been incredibly busy since opening, and it’s clear the space has become a welcome addition to the area. All of their treats are homemade by local bakers, and they offer one of the widest ranges of smoothie bowls in the Limerick area. They also have their own coffee blend in collaboration with Eleven14 and have built a great relationship with Keith and the team, who they love working with as suppliers. @brother.bear.coffee @eleven14coffeeroasters @thebestcoffeeshops.ie

Now this is something really special. It’s a new coffee shop which has very recently opened in the village of Boher in Limerick. You walk through the front door of Pa McGrath’s and take a left to the bar and a right into The Parlour Cafe. It’s owned by Aine Lynch and her brother Diarmaid. What a fabulous cafe. It has been totally restored with the original thatched roof. It’s really like walking into an old style pub with a modern twist, great coffee from Ponaire in Newport, fabulous baked goods from 061 Bakery and tray bakes from Caherelly Bakery. This is a labour of love and an excellent job. I’m pretty excited about this post as Aine and Diarmaid have done something special. I’ll be back really soon. @parlour_pamcgraths @theworlds100bestcoffeeshops @ponaire_coffee @the061bakery @caherelly_bakery #coffee #café #pub #traditional #fire @thebestcoffeeshops.ie

Fika Coffee Shop, Callan, Co.Kilkenny I dropped into Ruth Deady and the team in Fika Coffee, Callan. Fika is a Swedish word that basically means stop, step away from the madness, have a coffee with friends and resume life refreshed. It’s their ethos. There is so much to love in Fika, the staff are really friendly and the food is fab. I had a great coffee, a single origin from Brazil (Supplied by Mean Bean from Waterford.) Fresh and tasty food, I’ll be back very soon as i suspect next time I’ll have the French toast and bacon. That looked amazing. Well done Ruth and team. A fantastic addition to Callan and the surrounding area. @fika #coffee #frenchtoast #sandwich #fun #food

Kaph is an award-winning speciality coffee shop in Dublin’s Creative Quarter, known for its 3fe brews, edgy sounds, and lively barista energy. Since opening in 2013, it has become a go-to city centre spot. Blending historic charm with contemporary design, the café features ash wood counters, bold red stools, and illustrations by Melissa Lakey. Founded during the recession on the characterful Drury Street, Kaph was inspired by its creative surroundings. The name reflects both an East London take on “café” and an ancient word for “welcome,” capturing its mission to create community through great coffee, music, and atmosphere. @ellen_keane_ kaph #coffee #dublin #tourism #winner This is the third coffee shop from @dubstreetcafe @paddy__kirk I have visited
