late January 2019 on the brink of getting evicted by my landlord i decided to relocate from Pretoria to Johannesburg, literally with no plan for rent deposit or whatsover(story for another day...) but still decided to make the move anyway(because most of my belongings were already waiting for me outside when i got home from my day job that day 😂 ), only knowing the fact that I wanted to start producing garments of the highest quality even after so many failed attempts & felt Jhb had more opportunities and more open-minded.
Not long after relocating to the City got smashed by a car, not able to walk for like 2 months but erasing a lot of fear from me in the process(think i started getting more courageous after that near death experience) & it’s during this time when i started drafting a moodboard from all my inspirations(music, contemporary arts & artchitecture) with the aim of creating more than just a mere brand but a safe space that's built on the foundation of love, timelessness & expression(had no clue of what we were doing at at the time though & its quite obvious that we've never expressed ourselves 😂), trying to have an approach that was totally different from anything i had done(seen or felt) before and that's how
@nombidaofficial was born.
Not being able to spend time with my family, missing out on a lot of birthday moments & losing my brother last year has been the hardest to bare but I'm learning that progress has a way of disguising as failure.
Nonetheless, I wanted to take this moment & thank all the warm-hearted people who've been part of
@nombidaofficial 's on-going project of self-discovery, The meticulous, selfless people involved in this emotional & self-actualising body of work, I have nothing but love and respect for you. ♥️
