Case Study: Stephen Bruner aka @thundercatmusic . Bassist, Producer, Singer/Songwriter.
Last month I had the honor of playing the after party for Thundercat’s new album release listening session at @commune_atl . I put together a playlist of Thundercat’s discography, production credits, and influences so I could play a mix of his stuff before transitioning into Vinyl. I was a fan before but this made me dig into his credits and appreciate his sound on a deeper level. From his early days with Sa-Ra and Badu to his work with FlyLo, to Grammys with Kdot and critically acclaimed solo albums with a cult following.
His sound is funky, jazzy, experimental, psychedelic . Making you feel like you’re in an anime, or a grass field by yourself, or a party with Bootsy Collins. The content can be dark, filled with grief and loss but also bright and hopeful mixed in with his offbeat sense of humor.
