Museum of the African Diaspora (MoAD) is pleased to announce the 10th cohort of the annual Emerging Artists Program (EAP) for 2026–2027. Selected from hundreds of applicants, this year’s awardees — Jasmine Ross (@jasminereneeross ), Demetri Broxton (@demetribroxton ), Dorian Reid, and Tahirah Rasheed (@tfresh ) — will each present solo exhibitions at MoAD beginning March 18, 2026, continuing through early 2027. Since its founding in 2015, MoAD’s EAP has served as a vital incubator for emerging voices across the African Diaspora, providing institutional support, visibility, and pathways for artistic growth. The 2026–2027 cohort reflects the breadth of contemporary Black artistic practice, spanning photography, textiles, sculpture, installation, and social practice, while engaging themes of ancestry, identity, resistance, and futurity. Through these four solo presentations, MoAD continues its mission to place artists of the African Diaspora at the center of the global cultural conversation. More information on each exhibition will be released in the coming months. Learn more today with the link-in-bio.  #MoAD #EmergingArtistsProgram #BayAreaArtists #BlackArt #ContemporaryArt

Honored to be part of the 10th Anniversary Emerging Artists Program at the Museum of the African Diaspora. In a season where I’ve been moving through a cancer diagnosis as extreme institutional violence, this moment lands especially deep. It reminds me that the work — and the light — outlives every storm. My practice continues to center Black women’s autonomy, survival, transformation and care, bringing visibility to what must be spoken and held. Grateful that the legacy is already in motion Deep gratitude to the Museum of the African Diaspora and to those who continue to truly see me. 🗓️ December 16, 2026 — March 7, 2027 📍 San Francisco Stay close.

Feeling deeply grateful to have my work in ‘Beautiful Scars,’ a group exhibition at the 2nd anniversary of the Jonathan Carver Moore Gallery— an incredible exhibition space that has set the standard for what it means to inclusively display artists. This gallery has actively created opportunities, from residencies to museum acquisitions, while making sure Black women, trans folks, and people of color are seen and valued. Thank you, Mashonda Tifrere (@mashondatifrere ) and Jonathan Carver Moore (@jonathancarvermoore ), for this opportunity and for your unwavering commitment to artists. It’s an honor to share space with creatives I admire, and to feel supported as I continue shaping the work I want to see reflected in the world. Endless gratitude to ArtLeadHer (@artleadher ) for the vital work of championing Black women and ppl women of color—curation is no easy task, and the impact of that labor is immeasurable. Here’s to art, community, and the power of spaces that truly see us. Outfits made and styled by Karly Pearson ( @penny_sierra )

Pulled an all-nighter to screen print for the first time, with huge gratitude to @kamilhkak for the guidance and support. This ‘Not Your Savior’ tee is more than a statement—it’s an assertion of boundaries, resilience, and the reclamation of what survival truly means. Inspired by my glass project and Audre Lorde’s wisdom, it’s a reminder that Black women are not here to save anyone. Society expects our endless labor and care, yet it’s time to reshape survival into a path that’s defined on our terms. Hoping this message reaches those who need it. #NotYourSavior #DefineSurvival ——- “Thank You, Have a Nice Day” draws on the ubiquitous imagery of the plastic shopping bag—a symbol of disposable convenience in a capitalist society. This phrase, mass-produced and cheerfully printed, carries the weight of countless exchanges in a system that often takes without giving back. For Black women, the phrase resonates differently, embodying the survival tactic of polite dismissal, a way to navigate spaces that demand endless labor, patience, and resilience. Like the bag, Black women are often expected to bear burdens, to carry more than their share, and to do so with a smile. This piece reclaims that phrase, turning it from a symbol of consumer convenience into a statement of self-preservation, a boundary, a refusal to be worn down by expectation. It’s a reminder that resilience isn’t just survival, —it’s resistance. Wording on bottom: “Warning: Ignoring Black women's autonomy is hazardous.
May lead to erasure, silencing, and a legacy of oppression. Other side effects include creative theft, emotional labor exploitation, and systemic neglect of brilliance and resilience. DO NOT ENGAGE IN VIOLENCE: We are not your muses, not your silence, and not your saviors. Please recycle this Knowledge.”

Lost in the enchanting embrace of the Black Futures Retreat curated by the visionary Dr. Leigh Raiford (@346convent ) & Tianna Paschel (@saudadelight ) in the breathtaking expanse of Yosemite. 🏞️✨ Rejuvenation unfolded daily against the backdrop of majestic peaks, with exclusive access to a spa oasis, meandering hiking trails, heart-pounding mountain biking, and a feast of nourishing, locally-sourced cuisine. 🌲🚴🏾‍♂️ In the glow of crackling firesides beneath the towering pines, over 300 black scholars, writers, activists, dancers, poets, researchers, educators, musicians, and instructors converged in a symphony of shared wisdom. 🔥📚 Our voices, like echoes through the granite walls, each step a dance, each word a melody. The retreat transcended mere space; it was a kaleidoscope of joy, weaving together fireside singing, storytelling under the sequoias, and spirited games under the starlit Yosemite sky. 🌌✨ Gratitude resonates for the tireless work of black feminists leading impromptu teach-ins, shedding light on global injustices in Palestine. Words by Alexis Pauline Gumbs @alexispauline ) moved us, Tricia Hersey's (@thenapministry ) offering to keep resting resonated deeply, and Ericka Huggins' (@ericka_huggins ) reminder that we are all each other's students still echoed in our hearts. 🌟💖 I'm extremely thankful to these Black women for their leadership, love, wisdom, care, and abundance. Sounds of DJ Nina Sol (@djninasol ) and DJ Black (@blackismusic ) had us conjuring the best feelings of joy straight from our souls and the beats destroyed any remnants of stress. 🎶🔥 Kudos to Leigh and Tianna for orchestrating this transformative haven in the heart of Yosemite, where abolition found a tangible home, and the spirit of community blazed a trail for our shared survival. 🔥💖 #BlackFuturesRetreat #Yosemite #CollectiveNourishment" #channelingharriet #BSC #BlackonBLack #blackpeople #blackpeoplehike #napministry #rushcreeklodge #blackstudiescollaboaratory #bartertothepeople #blackmagic #drleighraiford #truth #power #truecommunity #blackfuturesretreat #bfr #freepalestine #junejordan #thenapninistry #alexispaulinegumbs #blackdiaspora #realniggashit
