Things I was not expecting to do this year… pick up the phone and hear “Hey, do you want to come work on Taylor’s re-record of Red?” It was a refreshing challenge to reverse engineer and recreate three tracks on this amazing record. And being a not-so-secret Taylor Swift fan made this extra special.
Thanks to @paulmirk for having me on his team for a few tunes and letting me hang out with his bad ass band (@therealjustinderrico , @n8drumz , and @sashakrivtsov_art_photography ). Props to the players who learned this stuff note for note and were in the trenches with me trying different guitars and drum kits in the studio.
Also thanks to @jefffitzpatrickmusic and the crew at @capitolstudios that made coming back to work in my old home as enjoyable as they always do.
“Just Repeat Myself“ ~ EP Dark New Days by @blueprinttokyo Mastered at Panorama
IMD (Intermodulation distortion) in mastering is the ultimate tone and harmonic killer; it can close up a mix SO QUICKLY, especially with rich guitar tones.
For this record, I used Kraftur by @soundtheoryltd to help add some clean density and depth to the master. The multi-band softclipping helps mitigate so many of the issues that most traditional processors impose with IMD on the sound of a mix. (Check slides for PluginDoctor analysis)
