Happy Juneteenth! “This is not a small voice you hear this is a large voice coming out of these cities. This is the voice of LaTanya. Kadesha. Shaniqua. This is the voice of Antoine. Darryl. Shaquille. Running over waters navigating the hallways of our schools spilling out on the corners of our cities and no epitaphs spill out of their river mouths. This is not a small love you hear this is a large love, a passion for kissing learning on its face. This is a love that crowns the feet with hands that nourishes, conceives, feels the water sails mends the children, folds them inside our history where they toast more than the flesh where they suck the bones of the alphabet and spit out closed vowels. This is a love colored with iron and lace. This is a love initialed Black Genius. This is not a small voice you hear.” By Sonia Sanchez August @m20unt_dub Baltimore, Md Spring 2025

I am so thankful for this opportunity to collaborate & create with such a talented, loving, and powerful team! Thank you to @chanteldean for this amazing opportunity to make magic together while addressing the racist intersections of America that plague BLACK and BROWN communities. Thank you for entrusting me with your vision and using your gifts to shine light on the realities of so many BLACK and BROWN lives taken away far too soon. Please enjoy & share! “A revolutionary woman can't have no reactionary man. If he's not about liberation, if he's not about struggle, if he ain't about building a strong Black family, if he ain't about building a strong Black nation, then he ain't about nothing.” Assata Shakur Thank you @thatsit_jon for allowing me to take up big big BIG space with your Beautiful Strong & Powerful Family! “If we must die, let it not be like hogs Hunted and penned in an inglorious spot, While round us bark the mad and hungry dogs, Making their mock at our accursèd lot. If we must die, O let us nobly die, So that our precious blood may not be shed In vain; then even the monsters we defy Shall be constrained to honor us though dead! O kinsmen! we must meet the common foe! Though far outnumbered let us show us brave, And for their thousand blows deal one death-blow! What though before us lies the open grave? Like men we’ll face the murderous, cowardly pack, Pressed to the wall, dying, but fighting back!” Claude McKay 📸 @sekou_luke

126 Keep On The energy of 126 carries a devotion to humanity,
a quiet insistence on care, protection, and continuity. My great-grandmother, Bettie Watkins Roberts.
Mother. Grandmother. Great-Grandmother.
Sister. Auntie. Mother-in-law.
Teacher. Mentor. Way maker. She was many things to many people,
but at her core, she was a protector of life
and a breaker of curses. Mama’s love was radiated.
It didn’t need to be explained.
It didn’t need language.
It simply was
felt in rooms, held in hands,
passed down like breath. I am grateful to have been loved
and, raised in the care of such a powerful matriarch,
a woman built on love and discipline,
faith and follow-through. Happy birthday to us, Mama Bettie.
I love you still, always. *These are family archival photographs
taken by Mama Bettie and Aunt Linda,
found in the home they shared. Moments captured somewhere between school years, before summer break and during. My great-granny loved taking the Amtrak to Las Vegas once the school year wrapped. A ritual of release after pouring herself out. She taught for over 35 years in the Baltimore Public School System @baltcityschools and was a proud graduate of Morgan State University @morganstateu .🤎 The year is unknown, but the legacy is not. 📸 Mama Bettie & Aunt Linda

Divine protection does not always arrive as escape. Sometimes it shows up as companionship inside the fire. As hands you cannot see but can feel. As guidance that moves through intuition, community, and the quiet knowing that keeps you alive. What we name as harm is not always the wound. Often, it is the system that insists we should not exist. Protection, then, becomes radical. A shielding born through faith, prayer, chosen family, and the courage to live openly. Angels don’t always have wings. Sometimes they look like lovers, friends, ancestors, or the version of yourself that learned when to move forward. What feels like a “no” may be divine redirection. Not punishment, but care. A refusal that keeps your body intact, your spirit unbroken, and your becoming aligned with a path that honors who you truly are. Grateful for my mama, always dodging my camera, teaching me protection in motion for over twenty years. @carnival Mama, 2024

“ONE OF THE MOST VITAL WAYS WE SUSTAIN OURSELVES IS BY BUILDING COMMUNITIES OF RESISTANCE, PLACES WHERE WE KNOW WE ARE NOT ALONE.” bell Hooks Stranger #2 @opentoall.ent ( please help me tag this baddie) Energy never lies. This night reminded me. We are always safe when we’re surrounded by energy that mirrors who we are. Thank you, beautiful, for sharing your light with my lens. New York, NY 2024

If you know us, you know we’re almost like Aquarius twins. @asiamonee_ decided to arrive on Earth the day before my birthday, January 26. As a two-year-old, I told my mother, “ Ew, I don’t want that for my birthday, take it back.” But looking back now, she turned out to be one of the best gifts I could have ever received. One I didn’t know I needed, but one I’m deeply blessed with today. Our birthdays aren’t here yet, but they’re only a few days away. When I got this film back, all I could think about was how proud I am of Asia. She’s a living reminder that as we grow, our dreams can shift and evolve for many reasons. The dedication we pour into ourselves overflows and inspires everyone around us. She made the Dean’s List last semester and is beginning her journey at the University of Baltimore School of Law. Just a proud brother over here celebrating how proud I am of my talented, beautiful sister. P.S. My parents hate taking photos, but Asia made this happen. 🙏🏿🤎🤎🤎🙏🏿 Baltimore, Md 2025 “Proud Big Brothers”

I met @thesolasystem and @themortgagegentleman at the farmers market while visiting home in Baltimore. Their energy was as radiant as the scent of fresh goods all around us, just as powerful and intentional as the flowers freshly picked. I returned home to NYC carrying that beauty with me. Thank you both for sharing your light and allowing my lens to witness it.

The Rose That Grew from Concrete “Did u hear about the rose that grew from a crack in the concrete Proving nature’s laws wrong it learned 2 walk without having feet Funny it seems but by keeping its dreams it learned 2 breathe fresh air Long live the rose that grew from concrete when no one else even cared!” Tupac Shakur (@2pac ) 📸 by August Kenard ( my youngest nephew @m20unt_dub ) Baltimore, MD 2025 To be seen through the lens of my nephew lets me know the babies will be more than okay. Loved and watered by the next generation of roses, we are also learning how to tend to the next generation of rose bushes. There is so much care & love to be shared.
