DISQUE 4 UPDATE This Friday, May 8 is the release date for Disque 4! The album will start streaming and digital downloads will be made available on that day. CD pre-orders have begun shipping and should be in your hands soon. We have some news to share regarding the Disque 4 vinyl. The records are on their way to our distributors now, and there will be about a two-week delay in getting those shipped out to you. We will let you know when they start shipping. Regarding the color vinyl: due to a mix up with the order, our Bandcamp color was pressed on Orange Haze rather than Ultra Violet that we offered. Orange Haze was among our first choices for this project, and honestly, it’s a color we’ve always loved for this release. Everyone who preordered the color vinyl variant from our Bandcamp will be receiving the Orange Haze color. However, we’ll reach out each to those fans and offer the option to cancel their order if they prefer to do so. Thanks for your understanding! Swipe through for video of the colored vinyl, holographic jackets, and CDs.

We’re incredibly excited to finally share the news: Takuro Okada’s new album, Konoma, is now available for preorder. Co-released by Temporal Drift and ISC Hi-Fi Selects, the album arrives on November 21st. Its first single, “Mahidere Birhan,” offers a resonant introduction to the record’s cross-cultural dialogue. For years, Takuro Okada (@okd_tkr ) has carried a quiet question: how can a Japanese musician honor the music of African Americans without simply borrowing it? That search shapes his new album Konoma, a work guided by the idea of “Afro Mingei.” The Tokyo guitarist, producer, and bandleader has lived inside this tension since childhood, drawn to blues, jazz, and funk records that nourished him, yet hesitant in the face of the histories they hold. The concept of Afro Mingei, which Okada first encountered in an exhibition by artist Theaster Gates, gave him a way forward. Gates connected Black aesthetics with Japanese folk craft, both rooted in resistance — “Black is Beautiful” defying racism, the Mingei movement preserving everyday beauty against industrial erasure. That kinship became the compass for Konoma, a record attuned to echoes across cultures and time. With Konoma, Okada delivers his most personal and expansive statement yet: a meditation on connection, influence, and the beauty that survives across cultures. To preorder the album on vinyl (black LP or “Mingei” color LP), comment KONOMA and we’ll DM you the link to order from Bandcamp or ISC Hi-Fi Selects. ~ Featuring Kei Matsumaru (@kmatsumaru ), Shoei Ikeda (@shoeikeda ), Marty Holoubek (@martyhbass ), Yuma Koda (@yuma_kooda ), Shun Ishiwaka (@shun_ishiwaka ), and Kazuhiko Masumura (@breadblues ) ~ Recorded & Mixed by Toshihiko Kasai (@casxtx ), OKD ~ Mastered by Dave Cooley (@elysianmasters ) ~ Design and layout by Toru Kase (@kasetoru ) ~ Photographs and video by Satomi Sugiyama (@my_cats_on_film ) ~ Press release written by Randall Roberts (@liledit )

Flora is an album that is listened to perpetually, Passed on from one listener to another, And the charm of the sound-and music-loving figure  known as Hiroshi Yoshimura, Just might come drifting through. Like the scent of a small flower. —Junichi Konuma 🌸 Announcing the worldwide reissue of Flora, Hiroshi Yoshimura’s underrated work originally recorded and completed in 1987 and first released on CD in 2006, three years after his passing in 2003. Flora is chronologically and stylistically a follow-up to Hiroshi Yoshimura’s acclaimed 1986 works Green and Surround, wherein Yoshimura continues to play with the ambience of sound and the sound of ambience, underscoring his mastery in the field of environmental music. Listening to Flora is like taking a stroll in a park, absorbing the colors and textures of the natural environment—flowers, insects, the swaying of the leaves—as Yoshimura often did at his beloved Edo-era park near his home in Tokyo. As Junichi Konuma describes in his liner notes, Yoshimura’s music “only begins to emerge as it exists at the intersection of passive and active.” Yoshimura’s approach to sound and melody invites the listener to hear the intricacies of the music with intent, while simultaneously allowing the aural textures to exist as part of the background of our everyday life. This reissue marks the first time the album will be available on vinyl (2LP, 45 rpm) and cassette, and includes liner notes written by music scholar Junichi Konuma and remastered audio by Grammy-nominated engineer @johnbaldwinmastering . Reissue design and layout was handled by @triffanietran . Vinyl, CD, Cassette, and Digital pre-orders are now open. In addition to black vinyl, exclusive color vinyl variants are available from Temporal Drift’s Bandcamp (“Evening Primrose”), @lightintheatticrecords (“Sky”), @diskunion (“Asagao”), @hhvrecords (“Daisy”), and @liminalmusicshop (“Clover”). Street date is the first day of spring: March 20, 2025. Comment FLORA and we’ll DM you the pre-order link. “Over The Clover,” the first single, is streaming everywhere now. 🌸☘️

This is Hiroshi Yoshimura’s Elk EM-4 Echo Machine. 🤯 Subtle echo (for a chorus or doubling sound) was one of the effects he used often, possibly on this track Dance PM from Music For Nine Postcards. Not something you get to see everyday.

We keep seeing everywhere that CDs are back 💿🤷‍♂️ We love CDs. Most of Temporal Drift’s releases come out on CD, but here’s a look at our second release: OZ DAYS LIVE ‘72-‘73 Kichijoji: The 50th Anniversary Collection. OZ DAYS LIVE is a reconfigured and expanded special edition of the original 1973 release. The hardcover book features a 100+ page oral history of the OZ scene, presented in both English and Japanese, with a huge cache of previously unseen photographs taken in and around OZ. Spread out over 3 CDs, this release collects all of Les Rallizes Dénudés’ OZ sessions as well as incredible performances by Acid Seven (40+ minutes of previously unheard music), Masato Minami, and Miyako Ochi. It’s one our of favorite releases on the label, and it’s kind of mind blowing that we undertook such a huge project for our second release. Still have some copies left on our Bandcamp page.
