Time for some of my (Teemuâs) favorite releases of 2025 (not including ours), in no particular order. Some words:â¨
Pic 1: Teppana Jänis & Arja Kastinen LPâ¨Over 100-year-old phonograph recordings of kantele player Teppana Jänis, reinterpreted by Arja Kastinen. A hauntingly beautiful listen that transforms the fabric of time. Out on the very appropriately named Death Is Not The End.
@deathisnot â¨
Pic 2: Luminescent Creatures by Ichiko Aoba â¨A masterful album full of musical genius and wonder. I discovered her incredible set on KEXP Live, after which I noticed that she had performed in Helsinki the day before, which tore me apart. Luckily, we now have tickets to her next concert in Finland, in March 2026. Released on her own label
@hermineinc â¨
Pic 5: Lifestyles by Rosettesâ¨Our summer jam! Laid-back soul with great songs and vibes for days. Great-sounding edition, as always, on
@timmionrecords â¨
Pic 9: BĂŠke by Oiro Penaâ¨Stone-cold classic in my book. I love everything about this album. All the tracks are super tight (and loose), the piano sound is perfect, and the art is iconic. Will be playing this for years to come. On the best label in town,
@ultraaanirecords â¨
Pic 11: Flora 1987 by Hiroshi Yoshimuraâ¨I could probably listen to Hiroshi Yoshimuraâs music and nothing else for the rest of my days. Another great edition from
@temporal_drift â¨
BONUS mentions for a couple of gems I still havenât got a physical copy of:â¨
Only Frozen Sky Anyway by Jonathan Richman: Probably my favorite artist in the world, with an album that feels intuitive and playful, sometimes silly, yet incredibly wise and profound. Like most of his records.â¨
Drifts by Arp: Recent find, absolutely adore the soulful ambient landscapes on this album.
@studioag
