He won! So delighted that David Szalay has won
@thebookerprizes for his novel bracing and brilliant novel Flesh. In an incredibly strong field and year for the prize, it’s such an exciting and deserving winner.
I’ve been a fan of David’s writing for over a decade and had the pleasure of publishing several pieces by him during my
@granta_magazine days (including one about his time trying to live off betting on horses, which I doubt he’ll be returning to after this news!), so it’s especially joyful seeing his work win the Booker and reach a global audience of readers. Huge congratulations
@hannahwestland @jonathancapebooks and Anna Webber on back to back wins!
This was such a fantastic year for
@thebookerprizes and we were so thrilled and honoured to host the first ever onstage event with the judges
@southbankcentre who have been such a superb and spirited panel:
@chrisjohnpower @theayobamiadebayo @kileyreid @sarahjessicaparker and their chair
@roddydoyleofficial . We hosted one of the best shortlist readings I’ve seen in over ten years, hosted by my homie and superlative host
@saracollinsauthor and with such captivating readings and discussion with the whole shortlist.
Such admiration and affection for the brilliant team
@thebookerprizes in patrticular
@gabywoodbooks and
@misshandavies . Massive congratulations not only on a stellar year for the prizes but also on launching the Children’s Booker Prizes. Such an inspired and important new dimension and direction for the prizes — looking forward to collaborating on this in the future.
I had such a good time at the party last night including chatting to legendary Margaret Busby, who chaired the Booker Prize in 2020 the same year I chaired the International Booker. A wonderful night and result.
