Jewish Heritage Month is a moment to reflect on shared history and the coalitions that made change possible. Proud to co-host a screening and discussion of Shared Legacies, Shared Futures at the State House with @senatorcindycreem , @gregforma12 , and @reptarsky .
The film tells the story of the coalition between African Americans and American Jews during the Civil Rights Movement and how that partnership helped turn moral conviction into actual legislation. That history feels especially relevant right now. The relationships built across lines of difference, and the willingness to show up for one another, are what moved this country forward then. They still matter today.

What a way to celebrate Earth Day week. 🌿
On Saturday I joined @neprwa and neighbors out on Edgewater Drive in Mattapan for the annual Neponset River Spring Cleanup — and it felt so good to get out there and do the work.
This cleanup, held just days after Earth Day, brought together families, community members, and volunteers across multiple sites to collect trash, restore green space, and protect the waterways that run right through our neighborhoods. I'm grateful to neighborhood leader Vivien Morris of the Edgewater Neighborhood Association for hosting our site and for her continued dedication to keeping Mattapan beautiful and healthy.
The Neponset River runs through our backyard — literally. Protecting it is about clean water, healthy ecosystems, and making sure our communities have green, accessible space for generations to come. That's not just an environmental issue. That's a justice issue. 💧

The first day of Black Women's History Month felt like exactly the right time for this conversation. 🙏🏾
I joined Dr. Christine Slaughter (@dr_slaughter ), a brilliant political scientist and Allen Lab Fellow at @harvardkennedyschool , for a roundtable on Black women civic leaders in Massachusetts and what it really takes to renovate democracy from the inside. Scholars, advocates, policymakers, and emerging leaders all in one room, talking honestly about representation, structural barriers, economic equity, and what the future of civic leadership in this Commonwealth can look like. The @harvardashcenter hosted us and the conversation did not disappoint. 💪
Black women have always been the backbone of democratic participation in this country. Rooms like this one make sure that truth is on the record and in the policy.

Thanks to our amazing lead sponsors @senatorlizmiranda@teambrandy617 , our many other legislative champions, and a powerful coalition effort, the Moms Matter Act is FUNDED in the FY27 Massachusetts Senate Ways and Means budget — along with other vital initiatives supporting birthing people and families made law in the ‘24 Momnibus.
This new program provides grants to community-based organizations across the state that offer lifesaving support to new parents facing Perinatal Mood and Anxiety Disorders (PMADs), SUD, and/or pregnancy and infant loss, particularly in historically marginalized communities.

When Neil Sullivan showed up to lead @pic.boston , I was a student at Boston Latin School (@blsthrives ); and even then, his work was already shaping the opportunities available to young people across this city.
To watch him do this work for over three decades, with the same dedication and the same belief that every Boston kid deserves a real shot, has been something special to witness. 🙏🏾
Neil built something extraordinary at the Private Industry Council. Under his leadership, PIC became one of the most respected youth workforce programs in the country; connecting thousands of Boston Public Schools students every year to summer jobs and internships at hospitals, banks, biotech firms, and beyond. Places those teenagers might never have walked into otherwise. That's not just a job program. That's a life-changer, multiplied by a generation.
Neil, thank you for your 33 years of showing up for Boston's young people. The city is better for it, and so are the countless students who got their first real opportunity because of you. Enjoy every moment of what comes next. You've more than earned it. 🎉
