During Easter week, the choirs of musicAeterna and musicAeterna Byzantina performed hymns in praise of the Virgin Mary from different eras. The concert featured early Coptic, Ambrosian and Roman hymns to the Holy Mother of God, Greco-Byzantine and Russian Orthodox Easter hymns, along with a new composition by Teodor Currentzis that carefully reinterprets these ancient traditions. The music was complemented by prayers and poems dedicated to Our Lady. Let us share with you the photo report of the concert by Luda Burchenkova.

The Utopia Orchestra, under the direction of Teodor Currentzis @tcurrentzis , brought its spring tour to a close with a powerful performance at Santa Cecilia Hall in Rome. As listeners remarked, the auditorium itself seemed to tremble with applause. A triumphant conclusion to a remarkable journey — and we’re pleased to share a few glimpses of that evening with you. Ph. Just moments before the final concert in Rome, we are pleased to share that this tour marked a significant milestone for the Utopia Orchestra: the recording of our album. As we prepared for this journey, we immersed ourselves in the unique atmosphere of Funkhaus in Berlin. There, in a studio renowned for its outstanding acoustics, we captured one of the works that formed part of our spring tour programme: Mahler’s Symphony No. 4. The recording took place in Saal 1, one of the largest purpose-built studios in the world, specifically designed for full orchestra sessions. Constructed in the 1950s, Saal 1 was acoustically engineered to such an extent that even the sound of an airplane flying overhead — a frequent occurrence when Berlin’s Tempelhof airport was still in use — could not be heard inside. We’ve now entered the post-production phase — a process that will bring it all together.

The tour is in full swing — with many concerts already played and Stuttgart and Rome still ahead. We’re glad to be sharing this journey with pianist Alexandre Kantorow, sopranos Regula Mühlemann and Aphrodite Patoulidou, who joined us for the concert in Munich, and with everyone who’s coming to listen to us along the way. Here are a few glimpses from Hamburg and Berlin. If you were there, please share your impressions — we’d be glad to know what resonated with you.
