Teodor Currentzis and Utopia expand their spring–summer European tour.
The tour begins with a special opening concert in Berlin on 9 May, followed by performances in Munich, Hamburg, Stuttgart, Zurich, Geneva, Bern, Rome, and a newly added date in Bologna on 4 June.
The programme brings together Gustav Mahler’s Symphony No. 1 and Alban Berg’s Violin Concerto ‘To the Memory of an Angel,’ performed with Norwegian violinist Vilde Frang.
Details of the Berlin opening programme will be announced soon. The ticket sales for the Bologna concert begin on 23 March.

The Utopia Orchestra and Choir, led by Teodor Currentzis, will return to the Salzburg Festival @salzburgerfestspiele in the summer of 2026.
The centrepiece of Utopia’s festival season will be a new production of Carmen by Georges Bizet, created in collaboration with the Belgian dance theatre company Peeping Tom @peepingtomdance . The cast features Asmik Grigorian @asmikgrigorianofficial , Jonathan Tetelman @tenortetelman , Davide Luciano @davide__luciano , among others. Performances run from 26 July to 26 August 2026.
Utopia will also take part in the concert programme. On 17 and 18 July, the festival opens with Utopia performing Songs of Despair and Sorrow by György Kurtág and Miserere by Arvo Pärt. On 19 August, Utopia will perform Kurtág’s Grabstein für Stephan, Berg’s Violin Concerto and Brahms’s Requiem.

Reviewing the Munich concert, Süddeutsche Zeitung called it ‘impressive,’ while Hamburger Abendblatt noted that ‘the true marvel of Utopia lies in the fierce dedication and individual agency of its musicians.’

Utopia set out on its tour with a powerful performance at Funkhaus Berlin.
The evening opened with Mahler’s Symphony No. 1, led by conductor Teodor Currentzis, and continued with the premiere of ‘Protocol 99Δ C’ by the art duo Lolo & Sosaku. Thank you to everyone who joined us — it was truly special.

Utopia is coming to Asia this autumn!
After the European dates, Teodor Currentzis and Utopia will continue with the next part of the tour.
The first concert to be announced will take place in Japan. On 23 November, Utopia performs at Suntory Hall in Tokyo.
The programme features Shostakovich’s Violin Concerto No. 1 with Daniel Lozakovich @daniellozakovich , and Stravinsky’s The Rite of Spring.
