Inside TB Mastering 🔊
Thoma Bulwer is a DJ, record producer, and mixing and mastering engineer, specialising in electronic music. Working from his East London studio (@tbmastering_ ), Thoma has been involved with projects from Voigtmann, Shanti Celeste, Saoirse, Batu and many more, with a strong focus on underground labels and vinyl releases.
In his studio setup, Thoma chose the Dynaudio LYD 48, providing detailed, zero-fatigue monitoring.
“In my opinion they are the best three-way speakers in their price range by a long shot and better than their more expensive options.”
When it came time to explore working in Dolby Atmos, Thoma stayed with his trusty Dynaudios and expanded to a 7.1.4 setup, with LYD 8s making up the ceiling and surround speakers and a 9S sub handling the low end.
“It’s the quick transient response, ideal for electronic music which I specialise in,” Thoma explains. “The depth of the sub, clarity of the lower mids (which allows me to really home in on what’s needed and not needed in that muddy area) and the brightness is perfect for me to tackle hi energy hats, rides and general upper percussion.”

Coming of Age’ (ANI004)
We’re proud to share ANI004 Coming of Age, a VA that captures who we are as a label: diverse in sound, rooted in the club, and driven by a deep love for craft.
The record opens with Thoma Bulwer’s ‘Just The Tip’ a sharp yet fluid blend of breaks and garage swing that moves with precision and groove. It’s light on its feet but carries real weight, setting the tone for what follows.
Tommy Vicari Jnr steps up next with ‘Felt Flat’, all low-end pressure and clipped percussion a stripped-back dancefloor weapon aimed squarely at peak time.
On the flip, John Manhard brings ‘Just Like Herding Cats’, a rolling, groove-heavy track that stretches the space between the beats, giving the EP a deeper counterbalance.
Finally, Tred Benedict closes with ‘First Light’, a drifting ambient cut that softens the edges and lands the record with calm precision a release that breathes as much as it moves.
With Coming of Age, we wanted to showcase the range of artists shaping our sound music that holds both function and finesse, made for the body and the imagination alike.
