Timothy Biskup (b. 1967, Santa Monica, CA) is a Southern California artist whose expansive practice spans painting, sculpture, printmaking, music, and design. After studying fine art at Otis/Parsons and sharpening his technical approach through animation and illustration, Biskup emerged as one of the defining voices of late-90s and early-2000s pop-surrealism and contemporary psychedelic art. His vibrant visual language — dense with geometry, symbolic figures, and emotionally charged color — continues to evolve across decades of experimentation.
From hosting underground live art auctions in Los Angeles in 1999 to co-founding GAMA-GO and creating work for Oh Yeah! Cartoons and Adult Swim, Biskup has consistently blurred the boundaries between fine art, subculture, and design. In 2017, he opened Face Guts, an artist-run gallery and project space in Glassell Park, Los Angeles, further cementing his role as both artist and community-builder.
His 2019 retrospective monograph/autobiography Tree of Life, published by Chronicle Chroma, traces the evolution of a practice celebrated for its “punk rock energy,” Baroque Modernist sensibility, and deeply personal exploration of fear, loss, transformation, and memory. More recently, Biskup presented Graphite Memory with MOCA in Los Angeles, showcasing the hypnotic live drawing process that continues to captivate audiences today.
