Only after her passing did I truly realise how much of who I am today… is because of her.
Her love didn’t just comfort me — it shaped me.
And I will carry her with me, in everything I do, for the rest of my life.

Mimi’s grey Honda Ballade took me to my very first castings.
She bought me a princess bed when I was born, and from the very beginning, she made me feel like one.
She became “Mimi” because that’s what I called her as a baby.
Her real name was Hilda… but somehow, even then, I knew she was mine.
She loved shopping with her three “princesses” — me, my sister Tracy, and my cousin Jami-Lee, both two years younger than me.
Some of my favourite memories are the simplest ones… painting her nails, drinking coffee on her couch, watching Dr Phil together.
She always used to say, “Everyone’s got shit — you just need to decide whose shit you’re willing to deal with.”
And somehow… she always chose mine.
It’s no secret that my mom and I had a tumultuous relationship. Mimi was the one who would come and pick me up, giving me a place to breathe. Weekends with her felt like safety.
She never made me feel like a “problem child.”
She never made me feel like I was too much.
She just loved me — fully, consistently, without conditions.
And if I’m honest… I don’t think anyone has ever loved me as much as she did.
Her fabulous sense of style influenced me more than I ever realised.
She taught me that your shoes must always match your handbag — a rule I still live by today. I’ve inherited so many of her beautiful vintage pieces, and I’ve even styled them on models in my photoshoots… carrying her with me into my work.
She was a beautiful ballroom dancer. I chose ballet, but we shared the same deep love for music and movement.
Her favourites were Tina Turner, Andrea Bocelli, and Celine Dion.
We would blast music loudly on her record player, completely lost in it together.
And she made the best macaroni and cheese I have ever tasted… to this day, nothing comes close.
She was so talented with knitting and crochet, making countless blankets to donate to mothers who couldn’t afford them — quietly loving people she would never even meet.
She was strict about being neat and tidy, but she would always help me unpack and repack my cupboards.
Going through her closet felt like stepping into a Clicks aisle mixed with a designer store.
She even kept her nail polish in the fridge… 💅
