What a surreal honor. Iām very grateful to the committee and also to our wonderful cast and crew @2stnyc who took the play out of the pdf and made it so visceral and human. Awards are SO WEIRD and I continually feel the strange duality of pursuing making something the worth of which is inherently subjective. How horrible is that, and how great! Meet the Cartozians is dedicated to my Armenian grandparents, who shaped my childhood in ways I will never be able to fully express. Here they are, when they were still with us, in their 90ās, holding each other. May we all have that prize.
Freaking out !! Throwing shit! And just Immensely grateful to @evancabnet and the team at @2stnyc for bringing this beast of a play to life, thrilled silly to be collaborating on it with @davidmcromer , and thankful to my Armenian family (blood related and otherwise) for all your support developing this script over the years. This oneās for you.
Eat Me is open @southcoastrep ! Iām so grateful to this incredible team and most especially to @caitesull for working tirelessly to translate this play from where it was lurking in my mind swamp. And thank you to my sweet California friends for keeping me fed (and sometimes dressed @michaelurielikesit ) while it was happening. The show runs through May 3rd and Iām so proud of it.
Meet the Cartozians @2stnyc is extended through December 14th! Some footage from the last few weeks of chaos and collaboration. Psycho to love a group of people so much!
1) First time in @enverchakartash ās brilliant costumes 2) the rehearsal room, very cold 3) Armenian dance. 4) unexpected twist during techā¦! 5) genius at rest 6) @hunterrhope ās delicious kadayif 7) the real Vahan Cartozianās daughter meets our Vahan Cartozian @raffibarsoumian 8) the very first patrons 9) @willbrill fitting Curtis into his Christmas outfit, courtesy of @iamandreamartin 10) a moment when @davidmcromer raised his arms and flew during tech that neither he nor any of us remember happening. But it happened.
Meet the Cartozians is open @2stnyc and officially the most artistically and personally fulfilling experience of my adult life. A HUGE group of people worked very hard to crack the alchemy of this play, which felt so specific and personal while I was writing it, but ultimately found its best self through the collective vision and collaboration of many. To these treasured collaborators: Iām so grateful. I love you. I will eat all of your livers.
Welcome to the first rehearsal of Meet the Cartozians, the great American-Armenian play.

Molly the Wonder Dog @mollywonderdog left us today and is somewhere else now, though we on Earth/Brooklyn are still in wonder over the beauty of her existence. I fell in love with Molly almost three years ago while I was simultaneously falling in love with Will Brillāan incredible 2 for 1 deal. She was easily the most human-like dog I have ever known. As we often discussed, she had the qualities of a successful business woman, a diplomat, a politician, and a spy. She was smart, sociable, charismatic; a strategist. She understood a prodigious number of English words. She did NOT care for dog toys (juvenile) or other dogs (unserious). She was a devoted Epicurean, a connoisseur of street food and kitchen table food alike. She loved carrots, burritos, pizza, peanut butter pretzels, and, on special occasions, my dirty underwear. She was tragically bored to snores by acting of any kind, but relished in a sociable backstage environment. She was a skilled sneak, and she had a snaggle tooth that would snaggle when her belly was being rubbed. She knew the word āfriend,ā perhaps because she had so very many of them. These past eight months, Molly cohabited with two very curious kitties and took their craziness/obsession with her in stride. She accepted me into her life with so much love and generosity of spirit, but she lived first and foremost for @willbrill . I believe it was this breadth of passion allowed her to defy medical expectations for many months, and to persist in life for the joy of being with him. Goodnight to our sweet angel.
