Thirty years ago, Taiwan held its first direct presidential election, marking a historic step toward democracy. Founded before that moment, TACL has grown alongside these values, empowering Taiwanese Americans through leadership, identity, networking, and citizenship. The daughter of Taiwanese immigrants, she made history in 2021 as the first woman, first Asian American, and first person of color elected mayor of Boston in the city’s more than 200-year history. Before becoming mayor, Wu served on the Boston City Council, where she also became the council’s first Asian American woman president. Known for championing progressive policies, her administration has focused on climate action, affordable housing, public transit improvements, and expanding early childhood education, while advocating for equity and opportunity across Boston’s communities.
