It really takes a race to stop lying to yourself and @blackcanyonultras did just that. If you have followed along either on our YouTube or podcast, you probably know that I have been dealing with bilateral Achilles tendinopathy for awhile. During the tedious and rather boring rehab process, I put black canyon 100k as my guiding light to get me through. Something to dream about and look forward to. Turns out the healing of an Achilles is slow and patience is not one of my virtues and so I ignored a lot of the discomfort and told myself that it would get better…and it did but just not in time for 100k. In the lead up I had really good days that gave me hope that I was over the hump but they were also followed up by days of pain, frustration, angst and tears. But I was stubborn and didn’t want to give up on the race I had held so tightly to during the return process. My day at Black Canyon ended at mile 19ish at Bumblebee. It was so hard to come to grips with seeing the race I wanted run away from me. It was a good and humbling dose of reality…that before I can compete at the level I want to be, I have to heal my body. So I’m taking time (who knows how long) and instead of dreaming about races, I’ll be dreaming and working towards running pain-free. Thank you to my amazing team around me: @adidas @precisionfandh @kinesisintegrated …thanks for being there for the hard times šŸ«¶šŸ» And for thank you to @somerrunner for capturing this moment along the way!

šŸŽ§ Episode 92 of the Trail Network Podcast with guest Tabor Hemming! Tabor Hemming is a professional trail runner for adidas TERREX and Precision Fuel & Hydration who lives and trains in a remote mountain town in Colorado on her family’s multi-generation cattle ranch. Raised on the ranch and rooted in endurance sport from a young age, Tabor brings a rare mix of grit, curiosity, and independence to her career. She and her husband, fellow professional runner Eli Hemming, train, race, coach athletes, and create content together through their podcastĀ Hemming and HawingĀ and their YouTube work, offering an honest look at life as elite athletes outside the traditional running hubs. In this episode, Tabor joins Katie to talk about her path from collegiate running to professional trail racing, why patience and maturity matter when choosing race distances, and how living far from the spotlight has shaped her approach to training and competition. They dive into her build toward Black Canyon, lessons from injury and misdiagnosis, the mental energy required in ultrarunning, racing as a social and developmental tool, and why saying no to the next ā€œbig thingā€ can be just as powerful as saying yes. The conversation also touches on FKTs, long-term athlete development, partnership in marriage and sport, and what it really means to build a sustainable life in trail running. Listen wherever you get your podcasts when you search for the Trail Network Podcast. 🤩✨ #remoteliving #remoterunner #runningincolorado #trailrunningrecovery #runningrecovery

And that’s a wrap! Was planning on finishing the season tomorrow at @kodiak_ultramarathons 50k, but sadly came down with a nasty fever and cough. So having to sit this one out. Hasn’t been the season I’d envisioned, but that’s how it goes sometimes. Ready to wipe the slate clean and start again come 2026. As always appreciate the support of @adidasterrex @precisionfandh @kinesisintegrated @hawimanagement through all the highs and lows of the year.

@tabor_hemming is a true "trail, track, and road" athlete, most recently representing Team USA on the Short Trail team at the 2025 World Mountain and Trail Running Championships! She is also a true student of the sport, learning her way up through each race and each season, together with her husband, Eli. *Tabor and I had a great pre-race conversation that did not make it into our preview episodes due to technical difficulties. Thankfully, the post-race conversation was even better! In this episode, Lauren and Tabor discuss her early exposure to Olympic and elite sport, and her parents intention to instill lifelong activity and adventure as a core of her childhood. Tabor competed on the Junior world trail championship team as a high school athlete, before returning to cross country and track as a collegiate athlete. It wasn't until the Covid-era that she rediscovered competitive trail running, and her talent and love for it. Hear the lessons she's learned, experiences gained, opinions formed, and thoughts on the sport as a whole and her place in it. Episode 55 is now available on your favorite listening platform, and via the link in our bio! If you enjoy, please take a moment to leave us a rating or review and share your favorite episode with a friend - it really helps! This podcast is produced with support from our friends, and fellow trail runners, @summit_roasters Use code WOD15 for 15% off your order every time! We'd love to see Women of Distance listeners supporting those, supporting us!

World Mountain Running Championships— A week has passed since getting the incredible opportunity to compete at the WMRC and it was one for the memory books! Walked away with gratitude to be able to run for Team USA! On paper it wasn’t my finest day, but I learned a lot and was happy to be able to contribute as a team scorer šŸ‡ŗšŸ‡ø šŸ“ø: @tonywithasony

There is so much more that goes into a finish line than just crossing a threshold. šŸ The grind. The hours, days, weeks, month spent in preparation. The sore legs, fatigue and dedication. The patience and sacrifice. It all leads to… the start line. Getting to the start line healthy, uninjured and with amazing training / fitness does not happen by accident. @eli_hemming and @tabor_hemming did not show up ready to compete on the biggest of stages in trail running by accident. Getting to the finish line @utmbmontblanc is an incredible feat! However, even more importantly it is the culmination of the massive effort it took to even get there. In honor of this epic event and of Eli and Tabor pouring all they had into the race and this community of trail running, Kinesis App is discounted for only 1 week. The strength and injury prevention tool that helped Eli, Tabor and so many other athletes is here for your next endeavor. FROM START TO FINISH — We’re here for you. Not the photo or post I was hoping to share but here we are. Heading into CCC, I knew it was going to be a bit of a gamble. Not because I wasn’t ready, trained, or capable of the distance, but because of what I’ve been working through with my body over the past few months. I’ve been dealing with bilateral Haglund’s deformity, which has made running frustrating and pretty uncomfortable at times. I’ve done everything short of stopping running altogether to manage it, but after 7+ hours out there, my body had reached its limit. I made the tough call to stop at Trient. It’s disappointing, of course, but I’m also proud. I was feeling strong, running in the top 10, and really enjoying the race. I loved the effort, the style, the experience. I hope I get the chance to line up for something like it again soon. Huge thanks to the team that helped get me to the start line and now, through the DNF: @eli_hemming @kinesisintegrated @precisionfandh @adidasterrex , and my amazing parents and in-laws. Grateful for the support, and already looking forward to what’s next. šŸ“ø: @jess_meniere
