Creative Sound Collective presents: Search and Reflect improvisation workshop. Hosted by Wellington jazz musician Jake Baxendale, these two 3-hour improv sound workshops will take place on 23 - 24 May at The Big Room on Heretaunga St, Hastings. Ever wanted to get involved with making weird and wonderful sounds with others in a free, friendly and supportive group environment? No previous musical ability or performance experience necessary - just an open willingness to explore sound and collaborate with others. Free and open to everyone, but there are limited spaces, and we would prefer participants to attend both sessions. Workshop details - Two 3 hour sessions at the Big Room Gallery in Heretaunga Street Hastings, 1pm Saturday afternoon and 10.30am Sunday morning. - Bring an instrument or a simple bongo type drum - we have some drums available, let us know if you would like to use one. Registration is open now, with limited places available. Please spread the word to anyone you think might be interested. Please email [email protected] @jakesaxendale @thebig.room

After a storm-enforced postponement, Stepdown will present the final Bridget Sutherland doco ‘Night Piece’ at The Big Room this Saturday from the earlier start time of 7pm. Preceding ‘Night Piece’ will be a live performance from local duo The Limb Centre, who will live-soundtrack a couple of Bridget’s experimental shorts. ‘Night Piece’ traces the performance art collaborations between Peter Roche and Linda Buis in the late 1970s, before focusing on Roche’s subsequent sculptural practice. The documentary is soundtracked by David Kilgour. Free. BYO (Bring your own cumfy chair too, if needed!) All welcome @thebig.room @davidkilgour4 @stepdown.nz
