Notice of upcoming programs at Rochester’s downtown library where I will be talking about all the things I always talk about: the potential in small gestures, short-circuiting distribution networks, ignoring official histories, rough ideas, collaboration, interdependence. Letting everything be important! April 25 and May 30 ! Thank you / also you can check out the Huggy book from the Roch library also the Los Angeles one and some others toooooooooooo
In March 2006 I went on tour with Barr and Animal Collective and it was so fun! I turned 30 in San Francisco and my sister gave me the Anne Briggs LP as a present it is still my favorite record of all time then an hour later Three 6 Mafia won an Oscar it was a really good night with so many friends and while the world didn’t become the world promised by that moment (wow those kids who went to the AC shows filled me with hope) I still feel hope and even bravery
Wow wow wow tomorrow night is a show I’ve been looking forward to for half a year! TERROR BABIES and TIGHT SCHEDULE and HANDSY GRANDMA at the PSYCHIC GARDEN three great bands at my favorite venue I’ll be right there at the front door to greet you! Come hang out/// doors at 7 over by 11!
Aaagh Georg’s book is so good and on Friday there will be a booklaunch at @giorno_poetry_systems to celebrate! Georg took photos of so many people you admire, Ira Cohen, Kembra Pfahler, Black Dice and Breyer P-Orridge and GGD and Martin Rev in a pre-iphone time when people weren’t really taking photos of each other? And the book collects some of these pictures along with tons of flyers, t shirts, record covers, and correspondence from Georg’s archive. Did you know that Georg booked a show for the Locust in Switzerland that took place on Sept 11, 2001? There are photos from that show and Kareem’s memories from that night in the book. Did you know that Georg passed out after working a shift at Lucien without drinking any water? That story’s in there too. Also an essay I wrote about Georg that cuts through Book Your Own Fucking Life and Kim Gordon & Jutta Koether’s The Club in the Shadow and a good story Billy Sullivan told me and who bought all those Linkin Park CDs? Come hang out I miss you
The Process brings together Georg Gatsas’s early photographs—taken between 2002 and 2007 within New York’s underground music and art scenes—alongside a curated selection of materials from his personal archive, including record covers, garments, letters, and other ephemera.
These archival elements are printed on the inside of each double spread, using a binding technique that leaves the top edges uncut and perforated. To uncover these concealed materials, the reader must physically slice the pages open—a gesture that, as poet Stéphane Mallarmé once described, animates the book and transforms it from a passive object into one activated by the reader’s hand.
