While we did not receive the grant, it was truly a privilege and honor to be a part of the 2026 PitchBLACK cohort with @blackpublicmedia ✨
We deeply believe stories like our film, “Infertile Ground’ are critical to our cultural landscape and essential to shaping a more inclusive, honest and authentic narrative of our world. We remain fully committed to telling the story and amplifying the urgent and immediate message at the heart of our film.
One of the most meaningful moments of the last weeks awards ceremony was hearing this year’s Black Media Trailblazer Award recipients, Stanley Nelson & Marcia Smith of @firelightfilms remind us of the importance of continuing the work and finishing the work! That message stayed with us
And that is exactly what we intend to do! @renz33
Congratulations to all of the incredible filmmakers, immersion artists, and awardees in this year’s cohort as well as the entire Black Public Media community. Thank you for creating space for Bold Storytelling and Visionary Voices!

Honored to have spent the last 10 months as a 2025-2026 PBS Ignite Filmmaker Creative Voices Mentor. Through PBS’s Creative Voices Initiative, I had the pleasure of mentoring Natalie Jasmine Harris, a brilliant PBS Ignite Fellow whose work spans fiction and documentary, often centering, coming-of-age, and queer stories with honesty and depth.
Designed for early career filmmakers, who have produced or directed at least two short films, PBS Ignite is a vital program, creating meaningful pathways into public media and expanding whose voices get seen and heard. During the latter part of the program, filmmakers pitch and episode concept for consideration for one of the pre-selected PBS Digital Studios series. If selected, they have the opportunity to produced and direct the episode in collaboration with the shows production team.
It’s been incredibly rewarding to support Natalie‘s growth, witness her creative evolution, and see her vision continue to sharpen and shine!
Mentorship matters. Access matters. And investing in the next generation of storytellers is always worth it.

🎬Announcing our 2026 PitchBLACK participants!
Filmmaker, author and award-winning journalist, Reniqua Allen-Lamphere, makes her return to PitchBLACK with Emmy Award-winning producer, Crystal Whaley to present “Infertile Ground”.
“Infertile Ground” uncovers how climate change — through air pollution, extreme heat, hurricanes, and contaminated water — is quietly fueling a reproductive crisis in Black communities across the U.S. From Cancer Alley in Louisiana to heat-stricken cities in the Southwest, from hurricane zones in Miami, Florida to water emergencies in Jackson, Mississippi, this film tells the urgent stories of Black people trying to conceive in a world that keeps pushing them out.
More participants will be announced soon! See our lineup of incredible artists at blackpublicmedia.org/pitchblack

February was Epic! Grateful for every single thing & every single moment ~ from the very real, intentional and often uncomfortable purging of the last few months. Being forced to (literally) not move and sit still while healing ~ to the Joy of escaping the deep freeze with friends of over 30+ years, Bday dinners & art dates, ending with 36 spectacular hours celebrating Black Art in the City of Lights, this BDay month was Everything! Deep Deep Gratitude… ✨✨✨
36 hrs in Paris to bear witness to the most Spectacular Ballet I’ve ever seen! The Dance Theater of Harlem’s Paris premiere of Firebird 🐦🔥 last Friday at the @palaisdescongres left me breathless!
So grateful to the DTH team @lovejonespr and the fabulous board members, especially my girl @mzhautehunter for curating the perfect weekend!
Got to see one of my faves @ayanavjackson show at the Marianne Ibrahim Gallery and loved seeing another fave @mickalenethomas ‘All About Love’ exhibit again, but this time in Paris at the Grand Palais!
Exploring our Montmartre nabe, vintage shopping, finding and dancing with the fabulous DJ at @vinyls__shop 💃🏽💃🏽 to dining at the infamous African restaurant @waly_fay and dipping into the chicest and sexiest speakeasy, it was the Best 36 hours EVER wrapping up Black history month and an epic Birthday Month!
Grateful & still smiling! ✨✨✨
