Good morning, DC! Welcome to a day in the life behind the scenes of Daybreaker (@dybrkr ), the sober morning dance party movement in 66 cities across the 🌍. My name is Timothy Patch 👋 and I’ve been hosting these for all of 11 years in Washington, DC, from the Smithsonian’s to our favorite clubs, and today is back where it all started at my favorite dance floor in the city — @flashclubdc We’ve got a hundred yogis who woke up early for yoga at the club with @sihnuu__ and a packed house for a dance party from noon to 2 p.m. on the rooftop — just getting started. Honored to be your host for the day! This is my hometown, born and raised, and it’s my true joy to bring this community together monthly for the past decade. On purpose.” 1000 sunrises. 1000 dance floors built from absolutely nothing. 1000 times we turned a random space into a temporary utopia before 9am. 1000 playlists made. 1000 DJs asking, “Are people… actually going to dance this early?” 1000 DJs leaving like, “Okay wait… that was the best crowd of my life.” 1000 boxes of cables. 1000 moments of “who has the aux???” 1000 near-heart attacks when the sound didn’t work at 5:47am. 1000 group hugs with strangers. 1000 “I came alone but I’m leaving with 12 new friends.” 1000 accidental therapists unlocked on the dance floor. 1000 times someone said, “Wait… no alcohol???” 1000 times they forgot they even asked. 1000 outfits that said “I just rolled out of bed” and also somehow “I am a mystical forest creature.” 1000 moments where someone cried. 1000 moments where someone healed something they didn’t have words for. 1000 tiny revolutions before breakfast.
