SYNTH/ELECTRONIC BIRTHDAY SHOW! This Friday, April 3, join us for a special night of synths, space cowboys, and sounds from space. Featuring Bunny X, Ships in the Night, Sycretist, and IONNA, this curated lineup brings together artists pushing electronic music into new dimensions.
We are thrilled to announce: Pan American. Also performing will be Stephen Vitiello w/ Molly Berg, and J&R’s Music World. March 29th, 7pm at Reveler. This will be Pan American’s first show in Richmond, and tickets are now available via the revelerexperiences.com website.
PAN AMERICAN is Mark Nelson’s long running solo project following his work with the seminal LABRADFORD, a Richmond band which achieved international prominence and launched the still note-worthy kranky label. Pan American’s music unfolds at a thoughtful pace, always emotionally resonant, exploring drones, field recordings, guitar, keys, vocals and effects work to understated, dramatic effect. Pan American’s new album “Fly the Ocean in a Silver Plane” releases on kranky on March 27th.
Stephen Vitiello is an electronic musician and media artist, with sound installations in the permanent collections of MOMA and the Whitney Museum as well as the Museum of Contemporary Art in Lyon. Stephen has collaborated with a rogue’s list of remarkable artists, including Pauline Oliveros, Ryuichi Sakamoto, Taylor Deupree, Joan Jonas, Robin Rimbaud and Brendan Canty. We’re lucky to have him in Richmond, and thankful he’ll be performing on this bill. Vitiello will be joined by sound artist MOLLY BERG, whom he has collaborated with since 2007. BERG's thoughtful work with clarinet, voice, triangle and field recordings resulted in 3 recordings for the 12K label, beginning with "The Gorilla Variations" in 2008, followed by "MOSS", and "Between You and The Shapes You Take". Their most recent collaboration, "I Drew A Fish Hook, And It Turned Into A Flower”, was released in 2019 on IIKKI Books.
J&R’s Music World is an ambient low-fi improv duo composed of your humble curators for Sunday Soundtracks. Our work explores sampled textures, synth tones and mechanical rhythms with a sense of humor and plenty of room for happy accidents, which we are praying for during this show opening for some of our heroes.
SAVE THE DATE: 4/3 Very excited to announce - SHIPS IN THE NIGHT, IONNA, SYNCRETIST - and in their first RVA show, BUNNY X from NYC. TICKETS ARE NOW AVAILABLE - url at end of post.
Come on out for a night of soaring vocals, dark drama, deep harmonies and rhythms that will help you shake off the work week.
Bunny X, based in NYC, are inspired by all things 80s and release a blend of retrowave and italo disco music. Influences include Depeche Mode, the Pet Shop Boys and early Madonna as well as synthwave artists like FM Attack, NINA and Timecop1983. Their most recent album, Love Minus 80, is a concept-driven collection of songs that were inspired by several sci-fi novels and films from the 1980s.
Ships In The Night is an electrifying mix of haunting, dark electronic and ethereal, ambient lullabies. Alethea Leventhal’s magnetic solo project pulls from dreams, memories and echoes from the outer world to paint an atmospheric landscape with sweeping waves of synths and kinetic beats.
IONNA is the synth-pop project of Soraya Teschner — a cinematic blend of emotion, melody, and myth. The debut album IONNAVERSE unfolds through the voice of its namesake character, weaving tales of distant worlds, cyber-snake-people, and cosmic missions.
Syncretist brings a fresh take on electro, instrumental hip hop, space synth journeys and 90s IDM, performed in a continuous mix of reworked songs from OSCILLATED INCIDENTS as well as new material.

ZnZerna return to Sunday Soundtracks, with a pastiche of electromagnetic ambience and sounds plucked from the ether of radio frequencies. Syncretist explores synth textures with a dubby attitude, and our headliner Jaguardini will be performing an instrumental set that draws on his retro-synth film work, in particular his live score for Dawn of the Dead (excerpts) .

A Valentine for you - Unconditional Love remixes! It was incredibly fun to see how these talented friends would re-imagine this tune. The mixes range from warm/sexy/slinky (Jay Travis) to skittery/experimental (Syncretist) to dark, driving EBM (Snowbeasts) to a peak-hour rave-up (Jen.) Each one ended up somehow conveying the complicated nature of loving unconditionally. Streaming everywhere today!
About the artists:
Jay Travis @jaymftravis is a long-time dj and stealth legend in the 518, just quietly cooking up peak gourmet dishes in the kitchen and incredible beats in his well-stocked studio, casually winning a national contest that led to him presenting his work directly to Trent Reznor. We’re trying to persuade Jay to come out and perform a live set!
Syncretist @syncretic_method from Richmond, VA is the long-running instrumental music project of Robert Salsbury. Syncretist is influenced by 70s synthesizer scores, cut-and-paste hip-hop constructions, electro and dub music, and “all the ways musicians use electronic machines to get at what makes us human.” Real ones will recognize snippets from past Architrave songs cleverly sprinkled into this remix between Speak and Spell samples!
Snowbeasts @snowbeasts_pvd - Providence, RI ’s hardware-driven, post-industrial, ethereal dark dance duo of Robert Galbraith and Elizabeth Virosa are incredibly prolific and always have interesting gear to ask questions about after the show. Their latest record has been described as “a brutalist manifesto for a world on edge.” We love the heavy, menacing angle they brought to their remix!
