We should all be so fortunate to have a passion in life—a feeling that’s bigger than us, something that helps define us. For me, it’s fly fishing, something I found a couple years ago in a time that I wanted to quiet my thoughts, connect to nature, and reconnect to my childhood passion.
When I met Syd through the fly fishing community, I knew I wanted to make a visual representation of her story. She’s one of the only women in fishing I’ve met, and the story of how she got into it (and why she continues) moved me deeply.
I am excited to finally share WHY I FISH with the world! So much went into this film and I couldn’t be more happy with it. Thank you to everyone involved— @elyphillips for taking the most amazing photographs, @erikgroysman for a most amazing composition for the film, and especially @sydferrin for trusting us with your story.

Family fish day. Fly Fishing with a baby is a lot different, but fishing has never been only about catching fish for me. Fishing is about spending time in a beautiful place and if you’re lucky enough it’s with people you love. A couple of lazy casts with my baby on my chest is fine for me. She had her bottle by the river and we bounced and laughed and enjoyed the scenery. Dad took her for a bit and she loved being walked up and down the river.
Barn door business with Uncle Mark. 6 weeks postpartum took the opportunity to slip away from the babe for a Pacific Halibut outing and it did not disappoint. 🎣 😋
