For me, the best stories live in the gray. This documentary is @giannatoboni and my swan song for @vicenews — with @nico.boz we spent eight months reporting on whether the U.S. should be executing prisoners diagnosed with severe mental illness. It’s the story of how two men — both on death row for committing brutal crimes against their partners and children and both diagnosed with schizophrenia of the bipolar type broke their families and communities — a painful hour and one that will make you think hard about mental illness, the criminal justice system and accountability.
