A hot city, and cool people READY to make change! 🌡️🏡🥵 Parramatta Town Hall was at capacity with community members, local leaders, long-time supporters and first-time attendees ready to push for cooler, fairer cities. Our second Extreme Heat Awareness Day brought new, exciting and bold event! With a strong, solutions-focused panel facilitated by @_nicolabarr on Heat, Health and Sports 🏈 A powerful keynote from award-winning author Winnie Dunn that set the tone for urgent, community-led action and the voices of Noqu Vanua Youth Choir that brought the room together 🎵 The message was consistent. Extreme heat is a health issue. A housing issue. A justice issue. And Western Sydney is organised, engaged and ready to lead! This event was a partnership with our great friends at the Hills Doctors Association, and supported by Avant. Thank you to our volunteers, partners, the team at Parramatta Town Hall, and Aunty Pat Field for acknowledging Country and grounding the evening. Thank you to the legendary Alex for these photos. If you want to be part of what comes next, complete our Summer Survey and add your voice. Link in bio. Momentum is building. Stay with us. 🌇

➡️ Comment “Events” to get all the info sent directly to your DMs! We’re calling on renters and supporters to join us at Redfern Community Center on Tuesday, May 19th at 12:30 PM to advocate for heat-safe rental standards in New South Wales. We’re mobilising hundreds of renters and community organisations to ensure a strong voice in the NSW government consultation, pushing for homes that are warmer in winter, cooler in summer, and more affordable to heat and cool 🏠 🌡️ Whether you can attend in person or participate online, we invite you to add your voice to this important campaign. Share this to a friend in the City Of Sydney and we will see you there?

Calling all renters, people who know a renter, and people who care about renters 📣 The NSW Government is finally considering whether or not rentals in NSW should have minimum energy efficiency standards. We think this is a no brainer - everyone deserves to live in an affordable, safe, and healthy home. But this public consultation is only open until the 31st of May, and we need to flood the NSW Gov’s inbox with support for strong standards. We are holding as many submission workshops and community events as possible. Can you come along to an event near you, or online to make a submission? 🫵 💬 Comment “EVENT” and we will send you a link to our campaign events. P.S. Can you share this post to help us reach as many people as possible?

Your rental is running on windows xp while the climate crisis is running on ultra HD ☀️💻 ➡️ Comment “HOT AT HOME” to get involved! NSW rental standards haven’t meaningfully kept up with the realities of extreme heat, rising energy prices, or what renters are actually living through in 2026. Right now, the NSW Government is reviewing Minimum Energy Efficiency Rental Standards (MEERS) and renters have a chance to push for homes that are actually safe to live in. Because surviving summer shouldn’t feel like a system error. Add your voice to the submission process and demand rentals built for the future, not 2004 🪟🌡️ Comment “HOT AT HOME” to take action, we’ll do the rest.

Renters deserve homes that are safe, healthy, and affordable to live in, and we’re bringing people, renters and non-renters alike, together for Community Action Sessions to support strong public submissions on Minimum Energy Efficiency Rental Standards (MEERS). Our first online session is this SATURDAY — a space to meet others, share experiences, and make your submission strong with support from organisers and partner organisations such as @tenantsnsw , @swelteringcities , @better_renting , and @solar_citizens . Click the link in the comments to sign up or to find out more. See the link in our bio to sign up and for more info.

Did you know that there are literally NO minimum energy efficiency standards for any rentals in New South Wales? 🏠 ➡️ Comment “renter” to get involved in our NSW renter campaign. We have a plan to mobilise thousands of renters across New South Wales, regionally, metro, and in the suburbs, but this campaign is only going to be a success if we work together. Share our content, text a friend, and let them know that this public consultation is on because only have until the 31st of May to make our voices heard. See you at an event soon! 🔥

Read this! ⬇️🔥 We are witnessing a data centre boom all across the globe and increasingly in Australia. Driven by growing demand for AI and digital services, data centres rely on heavy infrastructure and energy-intensive cooling systems. They attract billion-dollar global investment and in NSW, are being moved quickly through planning pipelines. Sound interesting? 👀👀 We have an entire write up on data centres, AI, urban heat and community action all happening in the heart of Western Sydney! It was great to meet with Ed Husic to discuss how we can make homes and suburbs in Western Sydney more heat-resilient 🏠💪 We agreed that heatwaves are one of the most urgent climate risks facing our communities. There’s no reason for the Federal Government to delay action on keeping people safe. It was also wonderful to be joined by Chantelle, one of our incredible volunteers from Plumpton, who shared powerful stories with her federal representative about why extreme heat matters to our communities 👊

This summer was powered by PEOPLE! 🔥 → 2,670 people shared what extreme heat is doing to their homes, health and bills → 34 events bringing communities together across the country → 4,000+ actions pushing heat onto the national agenda → Thousands organising, showing up and refusing to swelter Those stories shaped our advocacy, backed our campaigns and carried into rooms with decision makers. And it worked! One of our big wins: After years of pressure, we secured funding for more shaded bus stops in Western Sydney 🚌🌳 A win driven by community voices demanding safer streets in extreme heat. From packed rooms in Parramatta to local actions across the country, our second Extreme Heat Awareness Day, our team expanding and loads more, this was our biggest summer yet. We’re building a movement powered by people like YOU 💥
