Our wedding was perfect, in large part because of the love and generosity of our family and friends. Thank you @michaelselman for being our best friend and officiating, @arealhumanbeing for our beautiful rings, both of yall for the getaway car, @dangitttt for designing everythinggg, @cheeseplatter for being my planning guru, @fudddydudddy for being the most loving guide and sounding board, @dxmxhx for the SWANS, @michelle_devereux for the backdrop, @bethcita for fabric creation and daily support, @bekahdubose for Elissa’s perfect suit, @bobbyscheidemann can’t wait to see your pics, @pretty_cool_irl for being so hot and fun, @hoyston BEST DJ EVER, and @levidugat and @real_gold for quite literally helping us through the hardest times to get us here. Cherry on top was getting to wear @wiederhoeft and my mom’s veil 🩷🍒 If your work crush asks you out, say yes 💞

WHIRLWIND OF LOVE!!! If you had told me and Cory when we met at Showdown 14 years ago that I would be officiating his wedding to the hottest coolest most fun woman on the planet...we would prob would have said HELL YA and chugged our beers. I'm so grateful to have been a part of this union and spent the week prior with 2 of my favorite people on the planet. Can you say I LOVE YOU too much? I don't think so.

Today (March 5th!) @massgallery is participating in Amplify Austin day! MASS is run by volunteers and relies on community funding in order to continue creating space for creative and social action by, for, and with the queer community. “Creating space” has become a buzzy phrase with a ton of different meanings, but for me as a member, that means operating out of a place of yes and seeing how far down the rabbit hole we can go. Attending MASS events allows me to feel the magic that initially drew me to Austin, and has given me a homebase and friendship that keeps me rooted here today. Our explicit mission statement of centering LGBTQIA+ artists and community is directly under attack by the current administration, and donating funds will allow us to pay for our rent and programming, aka to continue the work we all love so much. There are so many good causes to support right now, and if you have the means pls consider @massgallery ! Link in bioooo!

2024 kicked my frikkin ass! Let’s be real 2023 did too. Started on a high curating my first show at MASS, followed by a truck smashing into our house and our dog days later. More chaos and stress to follow… despite (because of?) it all I feel deeeep gratitude. I learned how to ask for and accept help. Me n Elissa laugh everyday. I feel joyful and excited for the future. I read somewhere that you can’t expect true community if you aren’t willing to accept help when you need it; you can’t forever be the giver. That was my lesson and I am grateful. #boots #tvs

CARPET CHURCH IS CLOSING!! 😇Saturday June 15th 6-10pm. Come Karaoke, baptism swim, drink, buy a shirt 👕 and hang out @massgallery Elissa Ussery and Beth Schindler are long-time collaborators in Austin, Texas, who create fictional yet familiar worlds that focus on traditionally straight spaces. Previous collaborative works include Jonathans and Plum Crazies. What to except: dunking booth baptisms, daycare, bake sale, full bar, “preaching”, praising, confessional, karaoke, LYNNY’S, glazed doughnuts, carpet for days. Elissa Ussery and Beth Schindler present “Carpet Church,” a reinterpretation of traditional religious spaces, offering an opportunity for individuals to explore the concept of straight world cosplay. Their approach reconstructs familiar environments often inaccessible to the queer community, fostering inclusivity and belonging in unexpected settings. Acknowledging the prevalent trauma and shame associated with conventional religious and spiritual settings, especially for queer individuals, Carpet Church offers a platform to rediscover and empower oneself through play. While our approach to Carpet Church is lighthearted, we believe in the significance of reclaiming these spaces as a form of liberation and self-affirmation.
