Last Saturday
@theatreroyalhobart we celebrated the premiere of
@offgrid.series Hobart!
The turnout of community was incredible!
The doco is filmed and edited at an elite level by
@crey_zz and
@victorjshoots and captures a great part of the story of the development of Hip Hop in Tasmania with mentions of the origin days of the early-mid 90s by OGs
@topsk1 and
@dj_thensum , through to the inception of a strong scene in the early 2000s and the later battle rap successes of
@dunndofficial and
@greeleythc alongside the foundations of
@thctv_ , the doco depicts the blossoming and evolution of the inclusivity of more Palawa and female artists like
@denni_lutruwita ,
@notthisblackduck and
@thisisgracechia and their immense impact, it also points to the phenomenal rise of Glenorchy’s finest
@wombatsback and the creative and community entrepreneurship of
@kiz.73 and
@hermit.kovacic , not to mention the incredible “record breaking” “Apple Isle Style” Tasmanian Hip Hop compilation album featuring over 60 artists from the state, created by
@lachy_hamill .
The cameos are immense from all corners and various eras of Hip Hop in lutruwita (Tasmania). It doesn’t get everyone and everything that is Hip Hop in Tasmania but it does a damn fine job at documenting a LOT! Watching it filled me with pride and emotion, and to have acknowledgement from an outside collective like
@offgrid.series was a beautiful way for the state to recognise how far we’ve come and how much further we can go!
Glad I could be a part of the night, the atmosphere was beautiful!🫡
