Shruti Every film I’ve had the privilege of creating holds a special place. This film though, called Shruti, is a little closer to me. I’ll tell you why. I met Shruti, who this film is based on. Shruti lives in Nettanige village, Kasargod and travels really far every day to get to college. She stays late each day, working extra hard just so she can be a better teacher for the people of her village. Every part of Shruti’s day is a struggle. But not to her. In her eyes, no obstacle is an obstacle. Despite all her struggles, she is ready to take up any challenge and you’d be damn sure she’ll overcome them. You can say that with confidence just by speaking with her. Listening to Shruti took me back. If you know me, you also know life wasn’t the kindest in raising me. Shruti had me thinking back to all the times life refused to cooperate with me. When everyday was a struggle, met with challenge after challenge, non-stop. Only to wake up the next day, do it all over again, with not even the smallest sight of success ahead. She reminded me of all the times I had to turn on that mindset and everything I achieved because of it. The emotion I felt talking to Shruti, reliving my past through her struggles, is what I’ve tried to bring to life in this film. Thank you to everyone who helped me share this with you all today, both on and off the set. There are just so many people who play a part in bringing a film like this to life. Those who worked on it directly and those who had nothing to do with it, except for keeping me sane and grounded. You all made this happen and I’m nothing but grateful. Ironically, releasing this film itself followed so many set backs, it was rather fitting of Shruti’s story. Please enjoy ♥️ Swaroop
