House music has been one of my biggest love affairs since early 2000’s. I was a singer and a music student in the Pop&Jazz Conservatory of Helsinki when I first went to the legendary house club Kerma by @liltonys_music4friends and oh boy I really got ”the bug” from that dance floor! House music has always been by my side after that and it’s also the music I want and need to perform in stages, with people who also share the passion and nerdiness 👋🏼✨ Nothing makes me laugh, shout, jump and/or clap my hands like house music does. Even though the sound and vibe is constantly changing as we all are evolving with time as humans, some elements for me always stays the same; soulful, deep, honest and polyrhythmic hypnotic churchy sounds that fits into a sweaty club, beach party or a mega house party with me, my friends and my house plants. When I get a chance to play classic house tunes to children, I’m in! Open air show in the center of Helsinki? YES 🎉 It’s my third time dj’ng in this mega fun concept that includes teaching, community and fun all in a perfect mix 💕 As a parent and a club kid and also a dj and a massive music nerd I find it fascinating when people are organizing raves for children and showing them how a safer party energy is created. Listen, I found out yesterday afternoon that @hoer.berlin has a dj competition with a deadline that is TAH-DAY 🤓 I had to wait until this morning to have the chance to record or even plan the songs 🤣 (shout out to us single mamas hustlin in the music industry) So I recorded an hour mix and you can listen AND vote for it! As the deadline for the mix was today so people who applied a month ago ofc has more votes but I’d appreciate every vote from you friends 🥹 The main prize is have a booking in HÖR Berlin and a hotel accomodation, the second and third place will get a booking in HÖR. Good luck to everyone in the competition! This season of my life is for having fun, sharing music as much as I can and expanding myself to new fields of gold, so I just had to try this one out. I got the call early 2020. My friend Milja, who was in a team that was about to open a new underground/ volunteer radio station, called to ask if I’d want a show in a place called Ida Helsinki. As someone who’s had a neurological speech defect since birth, talking on live radio seemed scary at first. But nonetheless I said ”OMG ARE YOU KIDDIN ME F*** YES” and that moment changed my life! They said ”Talk as much as possible and you can play whatever you like!” 😍 Now more than six years and over 150 episodes later, I’ve interviewed dozens and dozens of interesting people from dj stratospheres, talked for hundred hours (with and without the speech defect), played vinyls & digital and many different genres and also from different languages or decades, and felt so alive doing all of that. I also host another radio show at the same station so I’m doing everything twice haha This love bubble of mine has given me a space where I can try out new stuff, a new career, practise my craft, it’s been a channel for self development, and given me many beautiful people who I can call friends. Also during those loooong pandemic months it was the only place where I could be free and play music for people since club nights or my singing gigs weren’t happening. So Thank you Ida Helsinki, I’ve seen many versions of you and you have seen many versions of me too and have grown with you. This anniversary episode is probably my favourite ever, it just has my groove and resonance and I wish it brings you as much joy as it brought me. It’s now on Mixcloud for you to listen. Tervetuloa Suva 👋 She’s a DJ, vocalist and multi-instrumentalist based in Finland 🇫🇮 with over 35 years of live experience and has recently shared the decks with the likes of @lakuti_ and @tama_sumo , Toribio @toribious_monk and @djmarciacarr_official to name a few. Her sound blends soulful house grooves with live vocals, creating a deep and uplifting energy that moves both body and soul. Known for transforming dance floors into spaces of connection and unity Suva brings the heart of house music to every set - where rhythm, voice, and spirit become one. She’s delivered a mix named ‘London Love’ for our mix series, and it runs seriously deep. In addition to performing, Suva has hosted her own radio show, The Garden, on @idahelsinki for over five years, curating soulful music and drawing inspiration from diverse genres. Formed in 2022 after meeting in the Finnish ballroom scene, this four-member DJ collective: Suva, Maua, Deep Kat, and OxPaha—emerges from diverse backgrounds in music, dance, fashion, and visual arts. Their mission is to spread the joyous message of classic house music, combining different elements of the genre to create a euphoric atmosphere. They aim to unite dancers, house heads, and club kids alike, encouraging freedom of movement on the dance floor for people from all walks of life. Deep Kat focuses on bass driven frequencies both behind and in front of the decks - she is also a award winning dancer who’s love for house music started long ago and her energy takes you to somewhere sacred, to a place where your movement rises up to ecstatic levels. Dj Suva’s career in music started decades ago as a singer and she’s known for channeling her life long relationship with live music to hypnotic, soulful and vivacious house sets where she yearns to connect deeply with the dance floor through impromptu live vocals during her sets.
