Introducing SUUDU Book Club, a reading and conversation series.
For our debut gathering, we’ll be hosting a literary conversation on creativity, expression & being human.
Together, we’ll explore questions like:
— Is creativity essential to being human?
- What parts of ourselves do we recover through expression?
We’ll provide the reading materials.
May 23rd 2026 4pm - 7pm
RSVP via the link in bio.
We’ll be screening Dahomey, a deeply reflective meditation on restitution, memory, and the afterlife of empire, the film follows the return of royal artifacts to their homeland. Dahomey is an artistic and haunting exploration of colonialism, and the enduring wounds of stolen heritage.
This event is open to all Suudu members. Non-members, please register via the link in bio!
Library. 2001 Magazine Issue 8 (Spring/Summer 2025) serves as a reference point for raw, youth-driven visual storytelling, blending street photography with collage to capture movement, identity, and rebellion. Its unpolished, zine like aesthetic and skate culture influence position it as a strong example of contemporary independent publishing that values authenticity over perfection.

Library: Hibiscus by Lopè Ariyo is modern Nigerian cuisine shaped by both traditional influences and global exposure. The cookbook draws heavily on Nigerian food culture, using local ingredients like plantain, yam, and spices, while reinterpreting them through contemporary cooking techniques. Influenced by Ariyo’s upbringing in the United Kingdom, it blends Nigerian flavors with Western styles, making the recipes more accessible to an international audience. Rather than focusing only on traditional dishes, the book emphasizes creativity, experimentation, and adaptation, reflecting a fusion of cultures and the author’s personal culinary journey. @lopeariyo

Library: The National War Museum Umuahia, established in 1985 in Abia State, Nigeria, preserves the country’s military history, especially the Nigerian Civil War. Located on a former war site, it houses tanks, weapons, aircraft, and other artifacts that reflect both traditional and modern warfare.
The accompanying book documents the causes, events, and impact of the civil war, while also showcasing how the museum preserves these memories through historical records, photographs, and artifacts, serving as a space for education, reflection, and national unity.
