Have you tuned into EP. 10 of #TheSurfriderPodcast yet? 🎙️🌊 Hawaii’s water looks pristine. The data tells a different story. 🔎 Surfrider’s Blue Water Task Force tests the spots most beach programs don’t — the streams where kids play, the waterways locals and tourists wade through and surf every day. In this episode, Mara Dias shares what they’ve been finding in Hawaii, and why checking water quality should be as routine as checking the swell before you head out. 🎧 Available on all major podcast platforms. “What we do on land shows up in the ocean.” Heidi Beltz (@heidimae808 ) is the Ocean Friendly Gardens Coordinator and a Blue Water Task Force member for Surfrider’s Maui Chapter (@surfridermaui ) 🌊🌱 A Lāhainā resident and dedicated steward of Maui’s coastlines, Heidi has helped plant 2000 native trees to restore the watershed above Honolua Bay and testified at environmental hearings to protect the island’s fragile reef ecosystems. For Heidi, caring for the land and caring for the ocean are one and the same. Visit the link in bio to check out the spotlight! #SurfriderActivistSpotlight

📢 Paddle Out to Protect Our Coast! 🌊✊ On May 17th, the 11th anniversary of the 2015 Plains All American oil spill, we’re coming together as a community to oppose efforts by Sable to restart the same oil pipeline — and the larger threat posed by a new federal offshore drilling proposal that threatens wildlife, ecosystems, communities, businesses, and our climate. 🗓 When: May 17th, Gather at 8:30 am 📍 Where: Refugio State Beach, Santa Barbara County 🚨 Why: This past winter, more than 300,000 people submitted official comments opposing the Trump administration’s plan to open over 1.2 billion acres of U.S. ocean to new offshore oil and gas drilling. That was a historic showing from surfers, anglers, businesses, coastal families, and scientists from across the country, all saying the same thing: not off our coasts. Any day now, a revised plan will be released, and we’ll see if they listened. We will then have 90 days to make our voices heard, one last time. This will be your final opportunity to speak up. For those in the Santa Barbara area, we invite you to join us for a community gathering with special guest speakers, a paddle-out protest, and even free breakfast. Together, we will demonstrate the power of coastal communities united against offshore drilling. 🌿🚫🛢 Sign up via link in bio.

Your daily dose of hope 🌊 Surfrider volunteers, staff, and California chapter leaders joined hundreds of other ocean activists in Sacramento to remind our state legislators that our oceans are worth protecting and that our voices actually matter! We talked about reducing plastic pollution, stopping offshore drilling, protecting coastal ecosystems, and making beaches more accessible for everyone. Our elected officials work for us, and when we show up together, they listen! Visit the link in bio to learn more about Ocean Day and how you too can take action.
